Job summary

JLL is seeking a Global Director of Engineering and Automation to lead building automation programs across our client portfolio. This on-site role is based in the Durham, NC area with 10–20% travel and global team leadership.

Responsibilities include setting SOPs/standards, advancing electrification programs, and translating data into actionable insights for operations. Requires a BS in Electrical Engineering and 10 years in engineering and BAS.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• 10 years of progressive engineering and building automation experience.
• Strong planning, scheduling and project management skills.
• Deep knowledge of BAS technologies, HVAC, chiller systems and auxiliary equipment.
• Experience with operation and maintenance of facilities and data centers.

Responsibilities

• Ensure innovation, best practices, playbooks, and standards are implemented globally.
• Develop and implement smart building platform monitoring and controls strategies.
• Act as SME for electrical engineering and controls automation for operations and facilities management.
• Oversee global IOC for monitoring building performance and responding to alarms.
• Lead a globally dispersed BAS engineering team and drive performance improvements.

Global Director, Engineering and Automation

What this job involves - The Director of Engineering and Automation will be a program manager and subject matter expert as it relates to building automation strategies, maintenance, smart buildings and controls, and analytics.

• *Ensure innovation, best practices, playbooks, and standards are implemented globally.
• *Develop and implement Smart Building Platform monitoring and controls technology strategies
• *Act as technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for electrical engineering and controls automation for operations and facilities management of data centers and technology labs
• *Oversee the Intelligent Operations Center (IOC) for monitoring building performance globally across the client portfolio and responding to building automation alarms and equipment failures
• *Lead and manage a globally dispersed team of Building Automation System (BAS) engineers across multiple regions
• *Drive optimal tracking and performance related to building automation and technical services
• *Write or review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and playbooks for the IOC and BAS teams
• *Be the owner of electrification system operations programs and upgrade projects
• *Create best practices related to maintenance strategies and facility operations.
• *Develop or integrate assessment tools to evaluate performance electrical systems
• *Stay up-to-date on industry trends related to smart building technologies
• *Provide expertise for operations teams to understand data insights and analytics: identify trends, failures, and optimize schedules
• *Ensure maintenance strategies for electrification systems are aligned based on operational priorities and risk
• *Advise on the delivery of maintenance strategies, such as self-performance decisions, PM/PdM implementation, condition-based maintenance, and other programs
• *Provide direction to Reliability Engineering and implement RCM principles
• *Foster a culture of continuous improvement through learning, hosting events, and coaching staff
• *Governance of the electrical engineering and building automation program
• *Position is on-site and expected to be in the client office 3-5 days a week as needed

Qualifications

• Electrical Engineering bachelor degree minimum, Masters or P.E. preferred
• 10 years of progressive experience with engineering and building automation systems
• Advanced planning, scheduling, and project management experience a plus
• High level of knowledge of BAS technologies, HVAC, CUP, Chiller, Cooling Tower, and auxiliary equipment
• operation and maintenance

Preferred Location

• San Jose, CA or San Francisco Bay area
• Raleigh / Durham, NC area

Expected compensation for this position

110,000.00 - 140,000.00 USD per year

Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
