Job description

Redtail Renewables is a private equity–backed renewable natural gas (RNG) developer focused on converting landfill gas into clean, low‑carbon fuel. Our team has developed and financed multiple RNG projects across the U.S. in partnership with leading waste management companies, utilities, and institutional investors. Redtail combines disciplined project finance expertise with a mission‑driven focus on sustainability, execution excellence, and long‑term value creation.

Summary

The Director, Downstream owns Redtail's downstream commercial relationships and market intelligence - building a proprietary market‑feedback loop that becomes a durable competitive advantage. This senior role runs Environmental Attributes and gas sales, hedging, and power marketing as a coordinated portfolio and deepens Redtail's relationships across utilities, marketers, traders, and compliance counterparties. The Director translates real‑time market signal into pricing, structuring, and offtake strategy that maximizes the value of every molecule and electron Redtail produces.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain a proprietary downstream market-feedback loop — a structured, always‑on read on RNG, environmental attribute, and power markets that informs origination, underwriting, and offtake decisions.
  • Deepen and manage relationships across utilities, marketers, traders, brokers, and compliance buyers to expand Redtail's downstream optionality.
  • Lead negotiation and management of offtake arrangements — voluntary and compliance RNG sales, environmental attributes, and power/PPA structures — in coordination with commercial leadership and counsel.
  • Run gas sales, hedging, and power marketing as a managed portfolio, balancing fixed‑price, index, and environmental‑attribute exposure across the asset base.
  • Develop pricing and structuring views across RIN/RFS (D3), LCFS, and other clean‑fuel and power markets, both nationally, and as applicable internationally; monitor regulatory developments (e.g., RVO, 45Z, LCFS) and translate them into commercial strategy.
  • Support monetization strategy for environmental attributes and coordinate with finance on the revenue side of project underwriting.
  • Provide market intelligence and downstream commentary for board materials, strategy sessions, and investment decisions.
  • Help build the downstream function as Redtail scales — processes, counterparties, and eventually team — as the portfolio grows from a single‑asset to a multi‑asset platform.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, engineering, or a related field; advanced degree a plus.
  • [8–12+] years of experience in energy commercial roles — gas/RNG marketing, environmental commodities, power marketing, trading, or offtake origination and structuring.
  • Deep, current knowledge of at least one core market: RNG/biomethane offtake, RIN/RFS, LCFS, or wholesale power/PPAs — with the ability to build competence across the others.
  • Proven track record negotiating and managing commercial contracts with utilities, marketers, traders, or compliance counterparties.
  • Strong commercial judgment and the ability to translate market signal into pricing and structuring decisions.
  • Excellent relationship‑building, negotiation, and executive communication skills.
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Direct experience marketing landfill‑gas RNG and associated environmental attributes.
  • Familiarity with NAESB/EEI contract frameworks and offtake term‑sheet structuring.
  • Experience with hedging strategy and portfolio risk management for physical gas and/or power.
  • Exposure to CAISO or other ISO/RTO power markets and LFGTE electricity sales.
  • An established downstream network across RNG buyers, brokers, utilities, and compliance markets.
What Success Looks Like (first 12 months)
  • A functioning, differentiated market‑feedback loop that measurably improves Redtail's pricing and offtake decisions.
  • Expanded downstream counterparty relationships and optionality across gas, attributes, and power.
  • Coordinated portfolio management of sales, hedging, and marketing rather than deal‑by‑deal execution.
