Job summary

The New York Historical in New York, NY is seeking a Director of Donor Relations to lead donor stewardship, membership, annual giving, and donor communications, supervising two staff. The role uses data to drive strategy and supports revenue growth.

You will craft compelling donor materials, manage acknowledgments and gifting processes, and partner with leadership to engage foundations, corporations, and individuals. Requires strong writing, Tessitura experience, and a Bachelor’s degree.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
• 6–8 years in development, donor relations, or related fields.
• Superb writing and communication skills.
• Fluency with development CRM systems, preferably Tessitura.
• Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail.
• Availability to work evenings and weekend events.

Responsibilities

• Lead donor stewardship, membership, and annual giving strategies to grow engagement and donor base.
• Develop messaging strategies and donor-facing materials with leadership and program teams.
• Leverage data and analytics to inform strategy and drive growth in donor relations and giving.
• Establish systems for tracking gifts and reporting using Tessitura and related processes.
• Oversee gift acknowledgement workflows and customized correspondence for donors and leadership.
• Manage donor recognition and naming strategies for exhibitions and spaces.
• Lead the administration of endowed funds and coordinate governance with finance and program teams.
• Coordinate institution-wide donor stewardship and communications commitments.
• Manage two staff members.
