Job description

Leads a software engineering organization reporting to the VP of Product Development. Responsible for the design, delivery, and ongoing operation of products across Veradigm's Payer Platform, including value-based care, payer analytics, and encounter submissions. Accountable for the throughput, quality, and reliability of what the organization ships, and for the health, growth, and leadership capability of the organization.

Partners with Product Management from problem definition onward, so that feasibility, sequencing, and cost shape market and roadmap strategy, and converts business priorities into an executable plan across multiple teams. Owns the migration of the legacy estate onto Veradigm's Health Network Architecture while existing customer commitments continue to be met, and shapes the platform architecture as a member of senior technical leadership. The platform serves both payers and providers, so the role depends on understanding how data and workflows move across that relationship and where the platform creates value on each side. Leads the adoption of AI-assisted engineering across the organization; engineering managers are expected to be hands‑on practitioners of the tooling.

  • Own end-to-end delivery across the payer portfolio, from planning through release and production support, including engineering delivery for the strategic care gap closure initiative spanning payer and EHR surfaces.
  • Establish and maintain the engineering process controls used across the organization, including work intake, estimation, planning, and status reporting.
  • Define and report the engineering metrics that show whether commitments are being met, including throughput, quality, cycle time, and reliability, and use them to guide staffing and investment decisions.
  • Identify cross-team risks and dependencies early, resolve them at the appropriate level, and elevate with a recommended course of action.
  • Serve as the senior engineering partner to Product Management, engaged during problem definition so that feasibility, sequencing, and cost inform market and roadmap strategy.
  • Co-own roadmap commitments with Product Management, communicate schedule risk early, and present viable alternatives.
  • Translate market and competitive priorities into technical investment decisions, and explain the trade-offs to customers and executives in clear, non-technical terms.
  • Represent engineering with customers, prospects, and analysts, and bring field and support insight back into the roadmap.
  • Own the plan that migrates the legacy estate onto Health Network Architecture, including sequencing, customer impact, and retirement criteria for the systems being replaced.
  • Set and enforce engineering standards for new platform components, including interface contracts, observability, deployment, and production readiness criteria.
  • Guide architecture and design reviews, decide technical questions that cross team boundaries, and contribute to platform architecture decisions as part of senior technical leadership.
  • Manage, coach, and develop engineering managers, and set clear expectations for management performance.
  • Own hiring, onboarding, retention, and workforce planning for the organization, including the hiring bar for managers.
  • Set individual and team objectives, connect them to organizational goals, and provide regular, specific feedback on performance and development.
  • Lead the adoption of AI-assisted engineering across the organization, extending beyond code generation into design, testing, code review, documentation, and operational analysis, and measure it by its effect on throughput, quality, and cycle time.
  • Set the expectation that engineering managers are hands‑on practitioners of the tooling, and hold them to it.
  • Partner with Product Management and Veradigm's AI teams to advance AI-based product capabilities.
  • Ensure engineering, quality, and compliance standards are understood and consistently applied across the teams, including the regulatory and data handling requirements of healthcare and payer products.
  • Own production reliability and incident response for the portfolio, including service level definitions, on‑call rotation, and postmortem practice.
  • Ensure requirements remain traceable from product decision to shipped behavior, at the level of auditability a regulated domain requires.
  • Own the portfolio's technical debt position, with a maintained register and a funded reduction plan.
  • Forecast and manage engineering spend for the organization, including headcount, contractor mix, and cloud cost, and report it alongside delivery performance.
  • Provide build, buy, and partner recommendations supported by cost, risk, and time-to-market analysis.
  • Make capacity and investment trade-offs explicit when commitments change.
