Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Developer Platform Engineering based in United States.

This is a senior engineering leadership opportunity focused on shaping how software is built, tested, deployed, and operated across a large engineering organization.
You will own the strategy and evolution of developer platforms, tooling, and practices that enable hundreds of engineers to deliver software faster and more reliably.
The role combines technical vision, platform modernization, developer experience, and organizational leadership at significant scale.
You will partner closely with Product Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, SRE, and Architecture to reduce operational complexity and accelerate delivery.
A major focus will be modernizing CI/CD, release engineering, testing infrastructure, local development, and self-service capabilities.
You will also lead the responsive adoption of AI-powered engineering tools and establish metrics that demonstrate improvements in developer productivity.
This role is ideal for an experienced platform leader who can translate a compelling technical vision into measurable enterprise-wide impact.

Accountabilities:

  • Define and execute the long-term strategy and roadmap for a unified Developer Platform, standardizing software development lifecycle practices across a large engineering organization.

  • Own the developer experience end to end, from local development through production, identifying and eliminating friction across development, builds, testing, deployment, and operations.

  • Modernize CI/CD platforms and establish standardized, scalable delivery pipelines, including GitOps and progressive delivery practices such as canary and blue/green deployments.

  • Establish scalable infrastructure and strategies for unit, integration, end-to-end, and performance testing to improve software quality and release confidence.

  • Lead the adoption of AI-powered and agentic engineering tools for coding, testing, documentation, and other development workflows while establishing responsible-use practices.

  • Develop self-service platform capabilities that allow engineering teams to move faster while reducing operational complexity and dependency on centralized teams.

  • Establish developer productivity and platform health KPIs, including relevant frameworks and dashboards, to measure outcomes and guide technology investment.

  • Partner with Product Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, SRE, Architecture, and other stakeholders to align priorities, resolve dependencies, and drive platform adoption.

  • Lead large-scale engineering transformation initiatives, balancing modernization goals with reliability, scalability, and business continuity.

  • Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing Developer Platform organization, including mentoring managers and senior technical leaders.

  • Build organizational alignment around platform strategy and communicate technical priorities, progress, and business impact effectively to executive stakeholders.

  • Drive the first-year priorities of establishing a unified platform strategy, improving developer productivity, standardizing delivery practices, expanding AI-enabled engineering capabilities, and scaling the organization.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with significant experience leading platform engineering, developer infrastructure, or developer productivity organizations.

  • 5+ years of experience managing managers within large-scale technical organizations.

  • Proven track record defining and executing platform strategies that support organizations with hundreds of engineers.

  • Deep expertise in CI/CD, DevOps, developer experience, software delivery, and engineering productivity practices.

  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale engineering transformations and modernizing development and delivery ecosystems.

  • Strong executive communication and stakeholder-influence skills, with the ability to build alignment across complex technical organizations.

  • Hands‑on knowledge of cloud-native technologies and Kubernetes environments across AWS, Azure, and/or GCP.

  • Experience with CI/CD technologies such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins and GitOps tools such as ArgoCD or Flux.

  • Familiarity with modern build systems such as Gradle, Bazel, or Nx and testing infrastructure spanning unit, integration, end-to-end, and performance testing.

  • Experience with progressive deployment approaches, including canary releases, blue/green deployments, feature flags, internal developer platforms, and developer portals.

  • Knowledge of developer experience measurement frameworks such as DORA or SPACE and observability platforms.

  • Experience with AI-powered developer tools, including solutions such as GitHub Copilot, Anthropic-based tools, or agentic engineering workflows.

  • Strong organizational leadership, talent development, strategic thinking, and change-management capabilities.

  • Ability to balance technical depth with business judgment and communicate complex engineering concepts clearly to executive and cross‑functional audiences.

  • A growth mindset and willingness to apply even when not every preferred qualification is met.
