Job summary

The American Constitution Society seeks a Director to lead the Policy and Program Department's democracy efforts and engagement with legal academia. This senior role focuses on defending voting rights, promoting multiracial democracy, and coordinating a unified policy vision across ACS.

The Director will collaborate with constitutional scholars, practitioners, and students, moderate expert panels, author policy pieces, and develop conferences and live programming to advance ACS’s reform agenda.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school with 4–7 years of professional experience.
• Strong research, writing, analytic, and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to diversity and inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with constitutional scholars, practitioners, advocates, public officials, and law students to advance a progressive constitutional vision.
• Engage legal academia to participate in ACS programming, writing competitions, and pipeline work.
• Moderate and speak on panels; provide substantive direction for other departments; represent ACS before coalitions; author op-eds, blog posts, articles, and white papers.
• Develop and oversee execution of conferences, convenings, and other live programming.
