Job summary

Mastercard seeks a Director of Database Engineering to lead global database operations and governance. You will drive architectures, standards, and reliability for critical data stores, ensuring security and performance across on-prem and cloud environments.

The role requires deep database expertise, strong leadership, and collaboration with cross‑functional teams to deliver scalable data solutions for Mastercard’s worldwide operations.

Qualifications

  • Strong working knowledge of databases with relevant certifications.
  • Good understanding of security standards and best practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of database management (Oracle Installation, creation of new instances, space management, database reorganization, backup and recovery, performance monitoring and troubleshooting, bottlenecks).
  • Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience.
  • Deep knowledge of software development processes including agile processes and test driven development.
  • Experience with data analysis.
  • Experience in architecture and providing technical leadership to large and complex systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent trouble shooting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Managing wide variety databases with backup/recovery, performance tuning, and high availability configurations.
  • Collaborate with service delivery DBAs and application development teams to develop database architectures and standards.
  • Create models for new database development or changes to existing ones.
  • Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues.
  • Monitor database details including procedures and execution time; implement efficiency improvements.
  • Design and implement disaster recovery and data archiving policies for data integrity.
  • Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for DB changes.
  • Familiarity with Oracle, MS-SQL Server, PostgreSQL, DB2, MongoDB, Redis in on-prem and cloud environments.

  • Database Engineering (DBE) supports MasterCard Business Systems and Operations across the globe
  • As part of the Tech Ops Database Domain groups DE drives the database engineering practice , governance and standards in MasterCard
  • As a Consultant for Database Domain, you should have a range of knowledge and skills to deploy and manage various database technologies in production environments

Role
  • Managing wide variety databases, particularly must be highly experienced in database backup and recovery, performance tuning, and high availability configuration.
  • Work with service deliver DBA's and application development software to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
  • Create models for new database development and/or changes to existing ones.
  • Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues.
  • Monitor database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements.
  • Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.
  • Monitor, optimize and allocate physical data storage for database systems.
  • Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to databases.
  • Database Technologies Include (not limited to) : Oracle, MS-SQL Server, PostgreSQL, DB2, MongoDB, Redis. The ideal candidate should have experience in more than one database technology for OnPrem and Cloud

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay Ranges

O'Fallon, Missouri: $138,000 - $230,000 USD
