About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Director of Data Platform & Governance to lead Hungryroot’s centralized data function, responsible for data engineering, data governance, and business intelligence infrastructure. This role will own the foundation that enables data-driven decision making across the organization, ensuring data integrity, accessibility, and security while building scalable platforms for analytics consumption.

Reporting to the CFO, this position represents a critical component of our consolidated analytics strategy, working in close partnership with our Insights and Finance teams to deliver trusted data products that drive business value and decision making.

Responsibilities
  • Implement and enforce a centralized data dictionary and metric ownership model for new and existing metrics, ensuring business team alignment
  • Create data access permissions, frameworks and compliance controls
  • Formalize data ownership across teams to ensure accountability

Drive BI Platform Ownership and Self-Service Analytics:

  • Own BI tool (current or replacement) end to end including dashboarding strategy, architecture, governance, and permissions
  • Standardize dashboard/report design and create certified dashboards, while eliminating duplicative and non-conforming versions
  • Empower analyst teams and business users via managed self-service tools

Build and Maintain Scalable Data Infrastructure:

  • Oversee data engineering, platforms and integration processes
  • Own Databricks and data aggregation
  • Create single source of truth for dashboards and metrics
  • Ensure clear data lineage and ownership
  • Ensure availability, performance, and security of data assets

Enable Organizational Alignment and Strategic Partnership:

  • Serve as connected foundation for Insights, Product, Finance, and other business teams
  • Extend best practices to embedded and specialized Analytics functions across the org
  • Support experimentation and robust product analytics

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Partner closely with Insights team to understand analytical requirements and deliver appropriate data products
  • Partner and align with Data Science team on AI and ML-driven company products and strategies
  • Work with business units to understand data needs and translate requirements into technical solutions
  • Collaborate with IT and cybersecurity teams on broader infrastructure and security matters
  • Participate in cross-functional projects requiring data integration or platform changes
Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, data platform management, or related technical roles
  • 3+ years of people management experience, including leading technical teams
  • Proven track record of building and scaling enterprise data platforms
  • Experience implementing data governance programs in complex organizations, with public company experience a plus
  • Ability to deeply understand business strategy and drivers and translate business requirements into technical solutions
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms and their respective data services
  • Familiarity with data modeling, data architecture principles, and metadata management
  • Experience working in a B2C environment preferred
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and track record of driving change with both technical and business stakeholders

Expected Pay Range
$200,000 - $215,000
