YOUR ROLE

As the Director of Data Analysis, you will be responsible for the design, implementation and optimization of a business intelligence strategy focused on providing operations leaders with the data and analysis needed to guide the business forward. Reporting to the Senior Director of Data Strategy, Operations Analytics, and Operational Risk, you will play a critical role in enhancing our organization by using data and analytics to drive business strategy, increase automation, and enhance customer experience across the US Life Insurance Division. This role requires working closely with key stakeholders, collecting requirements and producing deliverables in the form of raw datasets, reports, dashboards, and analytical solutions that will be used to drive business decisions. Strong candidates will bring exceptional communication skills, a proven ability to cultivate strong relationships, a passion for developing talent, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, cross functional environment. You will possess advanced analytical skills along with multiple years of experience leading teams of analysts.

What you will be doing

  • Collaborate with business partners to understand their problems and goals, provide recommendations and lead/manage to develop analytical solutions to support their vision and strategy
  • Provide direction to team, develop and lead a department of analysts; with the skills, capabilities, and passion necessary to successfully drive and sustain a data focused culture
  • Guide teams in the creation of data insights as well as clear and concise data visualization techniques
  • Effectively communicate verbally and with PowerPoint; socializing insights to primary and secondary stakeholders including executive level leadership
  • Become an expert in assigned business processes, including upstream and downstream implications. Relate business processes to financial performance measures and analysis.
  • Support key control reporting to monitor day to day business. Ensure accuracy, data integrity, and escalation paths are included. Scorecard monthly to track performance and identify areas of improvement for the business.
  • Identify business opportunities/issues, develop and provide insights, key performance indicators and analysis to drive the effective decision-making process and support business operations for internal and external customers
  • Focus on automation and utilizing technology to provide repeatable reporting solutions to promote self-service culture for business partners.
  • Influence all levels of an organization to support projects and ideas. Measure and validate project results and successfully implement all facets of process improvements or changes identified.
  • Collects, analyzes and reports management data to support decisions on day-to-day operations, strategic planning and specific business performance issues
  • Collates, models, interprets and analyzes data; synthesizes results, often using data visualization techniques, to explain variances and trends and illustrate concepts

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in in a mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science, operations research, or technical discipline or equivalent
  • At least 10 years of analytics experience. Expertise obtained through progressive analytical and operational work experience
  • At least 5 years of direct leadership experience with proven ability to develop your team and execute on strategy
  • A passion for problem solving intellectual curiosity and customer focused. Build collaborative and effective relationship with business partners.
  • Outstanding oral, written and presentation skills. Able to develop and deliver clear, crisp and customer focused messages and presentations to all levels of associates.
  • Drive and stimulate change - a demonstrated change agent with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to influence and work collaboratively in a team. Build relationship & networking skills with internal organization and customers.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Spotfire, Tableau, Business Power Intelligence or Business Objects)
  • Subject matter expertise in advanced analytical and modeling data capabilities utilizing Python and/or R
  • Experience with cloud data technologies (e.g. AWS/Azure)
  • Experience with database Rational Database Management System (RDBMS) technologies (e.g., SQL server, Greenplum, Oracle)

  • Master's or PhD degree in a mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science, operations research, or technical discipline
  • Life/LTC Insurance product and claims process knowledge
  • People focused leadership style with a lead by example approach

For the State of New York: The base salary pay range for this role starts at a minimum rate of $168,300 up to the maximum of $293,900. In addition to your base salary, you will also be eligible to participate in an incentive plan. The incentive plan is based on performance and the target earning opportunity is 20% of your base compensation. The final determination on base pay for this position will be based on multiple factors at the time of this job posting including but not limited to geographic location, experience, and qualifications to ensure pay equity within the organization.
