Job summary

HealthTrust, a part of HCA Healthcare, seeks a Director, Custom Contracting to lead strategic capital equipment and purchased services programs for HealthTrust members. You will negotiate, review portfolios, and collaborate across contracting teams and stakeholders to drive value.

The role requires 7+ years in healthcare contracting with strong leadership, budgeting and project management skills, and a proven track record of delivering savings through standardized contracts and effective vendor

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • 7+ years in healthcare contracting, strategic sourcing, supply chain and related leadership roles.
  • Experience with healthcare capital equipment planning, capital budgeting and purchased services strategies.
  • Excellent negotiating skills.
  • Experience in project management and coordination with measurement of deliverables.
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Occasional travel.

Responsibilities

  • Provides sourcing expertise around capital equipment or purchased services expense management to contribute to the facility or IDN’s overall strategic plan.
  • Assesses and provides leadership around capital equipment or purchased services expense to guide and support the organization’s strategy.
  • Manages capital equipment plan or budget and purchased services project plan, working with key stakeholders from all IDN facilities to drive and achieve savings for all identified categories.
  • Assimilates required information from contracts, invoices, volume data and budgets.
  • Analyzes data, makes strategic recommendations and executes a course of action for savings opportunities.
  • Participates in calls and meetings with stakeholders to review active contracting projects.
  • Develops, implements and coordinates the facility or IDN system’s approach to an effective capital equipment or purchased services program, including standardization.
  • Develops policies and procedures related to budgeting, planning and expense management.
  • Participates in agenda development and follows up on action items through leadership.
  • Standardizes service vendors and service level agreements as appropriate.
  • Coordinates with HealthTrust contracting teams.
  • Tracks contract execution, implementation, savings and supplier service levels on an ongoing basis.
  • Negotiates and/or supports custom contracts for capital equipment and service categories.

Job Summary

The Director, Custom Contracting is responsible for developing, negotiating and implementing a strategic capital equipment plan and/or purchased services portfolio for HealthTrust members.

Key tasks include reviewing and optimizing the current GPO contract portfolio, collaborating with the HealthTrust/Valify Solutions Group contracting team, and building strategic alliances with key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership
  • Provides sourcing expertise around capital equipment or purchased services expense management to contribute to the facility or IDN’s overall strategic plan.
  • Assesses and provides leadership around capital equipment or purchased services expense to guide and support the organization’s strategy.
  • Manages capital equipment plan or budget and purchased services project plan, working with key stakeholders from all IDN facilities to drive and achieve savings for all identified categories.

Project Development and Management
  • Manages multiple projects and tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong organization skills and ability to plan, implement and execute.
  • Exceptional time‑management skills.
  • Develops project plans for major and complex projects.
  • Creates milestones to ensure outcomes are achieved and builds consensus through contract implementation.
  • Identifies current HealthTrust vendors and manages transition to HealthTrust agreements.
  • Tracks adoption and conversion to new agreements.
  • Builds a pipeline of potential savings opportunities, prioritizing based on savings, contracting cycles and strategic need.
  • Provides vendor lists for sourcing events.
  • Assists in identifying key stakeholders for high‑priority service‑level requirements.
Customer Service
  • Manages customer expectations and delivers cost savings according to estimated timelines.
  • Minimizes overlap of projects with existing contracts.
  • Coordinates capital equipment planning and budgeting, supervises data analysis and uses customer participation to achieve goals.
  • Interacts with clinicians, physicians, supply chain and hospital leadership to understand needs.
  • Continuously defines and improves customer solutions.
  • Provides education on the capital equipment or purchased services program.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with stakeholders within HealthTrust, Supply Chain, leadership and Value Analysis teams.
Financial
  • Establishes and meets expense savings goals.
  • Collaborates with organizations to track and analyze financial data.
  • Provides savings enhancement strategies with facility or IDN representatives and the contracting team.
  • Develops standardized documents, processes and calculations to quantify savings solutions.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree is required.
  • 7+ years of experience in healthcare contracting, strategic sourcing, supply chain, capital equipment, purchased services, and related leadership roles.
  • Experience with healthcare capital equipment planning, capital budgeting and purchased services strategies.
  • Excellent negotiating skills.
  • Experience in project management and coordination with measurement of deliverables.
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Software skills with data warehouse and/or MicroStrategy highly preferred.
  • Occasional travel.
