Directs, motivates, oversees, and provides final sign-off of the conceptualization, development, design, and production of all advertising, communications, and information materials for Metro. The goal is to initiate and maintain an engaging and cohesive communications program for all visual and messaging content that the agency presents county-wide.
The Director, Creative Services will lead the creative team and drive the development of impactful and engaging content that aligns with the brand’s strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
- Generate initial creative strategies and lead efforts across all Metro communications, including advertising, marketing materials, TV/radio/video, fleet design, signage, fare media, maps, and timetables.
- Oversee the Metro Design Studio, assign projects, evaluate work, ensure workflow and quality, and refine production systems for timely delivery.
- Approve design and creative products for all marketing projects.
- Motivate the marketing team and support staff in content and design integration.
- Evaluate and supervise technology acquisition.
- Manage and evaluate the work of agency and contracted staff to translate the agency vision into visual communication.
- Collaborate with executive management and internal clients on ideas and concepts.
- Oversee large-scale advertising and communication projects.
- Lead or attend progress meetings for multiple projects.
- Serve as the agency's principal copywriter, editing short-form copy.
- Manage social media, advertising, and marketing research staff and vendors.
- Provide creative direction for Metro's website.
- Develop and communicate creative strategies for Metro departments, ensuring high-quality outputs.
- Create advertising graphics and collateral materials within schedule and budget.
- Guide technical design and oversee visual communications, including print and digital media.
- Establish policies and guidelines to promote quality graphic design and support advertising strategies.
- Facilitate information flow between design, marketing, and internal clients.
- Review workflow, equipment, staffing, and resolve scheduling conflicts.
- Develop scopes of work, prepare cost estimates, and participate in consultant selection.
- Oversee outside advertising and design consultants as needed.
- Develop annual budgets and work plans.
- Prepare reports and recommendations for management and the Board of Directors.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate staff; provide performance feedback.
- Implement safety policies and maintain accountability for safety performance.
- Contribute to the enforcement of EEO policies.
Minimum Qualifications:
A combination of education and/or experience, typically including:
- Bachelor's Degree in Visual Communications, Graphic Design, or related; Master’s preferred.
- Five years of management experience in advertising, design, marketing, or communications, overseeing complex projects with a strong design and copywriting background.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid California Class C Driver License or alternative transportation method.

- Experience in public or transportation sector creative solutions.
- Experience aligning creative outputs with business goals.
- Leadership experience in creative team management.
- Managing large-scale projects, budgets, and timelines.
- Presentation experience to senior executives.
