Walmart is seeking a Director of Creative Automation & Asset Strategy to revolutionize creative content production through automation. This hybrid role requires leadership in managing creative workflows and assets, aiming to enhance efficiency and personalization. Ideal candidates are creative technologists with extensive experience in the field, ready to drive strategic transformation in a fast-paced environment.
Position Summary...
What you'll do...The Director of Creative Automation & Asset Strategy will lead the evolution of how we produce, manage, and scale creative content at Sam’s Club. This role is rooted in automation—designing and implementing systems that streamline creative production and enable personalization at scale. But it also recognizes that automation is only as powerful as the assets it draws from. That’s why this leader will also oversee the strategy and operations behind our creative asset libraries, ensuring they are structured, accessible, and optimized for automated workflows.
This is a hybrid role for a systems thinker who understands both the creative process and the infrastructure that supports it. You’ll partner closely with external agencies and internal teams to drive innovation, efficiency, and brand consistency across every touchpoint.
Key Responsibilities
Creative Automation Leadership
Architect and implement creative automation workflows across channels and platforms.
Design modular, reusable templates that support dynamic content generation.
Integrate data feeds and personalization logic into creative production pipelines.
Collaborate with creative, media, and tech teams to identify automation opportunities upstream (e.g., during briefing and planning).
Oversee creative direction at external agencies, ensuring alignment with automation strategy and brand standards.
Monitor performance metrics and continuously optimize automation systems for speed, quality, and impact.
Asset Strategy & Management
Lead the strategy for how creative assets are structured, tagged, and stored to support automation and reuse.
Oversee the implementation and governance of digital asset management (DAM) systems.
Develop metadata schemas and version control practices that enable efficient asset retrieval and lifecycle management.
Ensure assets are accessible to internal teams and agency partners while maintaining appropriate access controls and security.
Collaborate with production and operations teams to ensure asset readiness for automated deployment.
Required Competencies
Deep understanding of creative automation platforms (e.g., Bynder, Storyteq, AEM Assets, Aprimo).
Familiarity with design systems and modular content frameworks.
Experience with DAM systems and metadata governance.
Strong grasp of programming logic, data integration, and content personalization.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills across creative, technical, and operational teams.
Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and manage external partners.
Analytical mindset with a focus on performance, scalability, and continuous improvement.
Ideal Candidate Profile
You are a creative technologist who thrives at the intersection of storytelling and systems. You’ve led automation initiatives that transformed how creative work gets done—and you understand that great automation starts with great asset hygiene. You’re comfortable toggling between high-level strategy and operational detail, and you know how to bring people along on the journey. You’ve worked with agencies, built scalable content ecosystems, and know how to use technology to unlock creative potential.
Strategic Considerations
This role is critical to our ability to scale personalized marketing and member engagement. As we grow, we need to move faster without sacrificing quality or brand integrity. That means building a creative engine powered by automation, fueled by well-managed assets, and guided by a clear strategic vision. This director will be at the center of that transformation.
