Job description

Why Join Us

The Director, Corporate Sustainability is a strategic leader responsible for defining and advancing Clarios' global sustainability strategy and roadmap. Working across functions and regions, this role translates customer, regulatory, investor, and market expectations into enterprise priorities, governance structures, performance targets, and actionable business plans. The Director leads sustainability reporting, climate strategy, regulatory readiness, and disclosure governance while providing executive leadership with clear insights on risks, opportunities, trade‑offs, and investment priorities that support long‑term growth, competitiveness, and stakeholder confidence.

What you will do
  • This role is global in scope and partners closely with Government Affairs, Finance, Legal, Procurement, Operations, Commercial and regional teams to turn customer, regulatory and investor expectations into a prioritized roadmap.
  • The Director will leverage expertise in CSRD/ESRS, climate disclosure, GHG accounting, science‑based targets and assurance to position Clarios for long‑term competitiveness.
  • Set and execute the enterprise sustainability strategy and roadmap, with clear priorities, owners, investment cases and trade‑offs for senior leaders.
  • Lead enterprise extended financial reporting, climate targets and carbon accounting through one governed, assurance‑ready data set.
  • As part of broader Clarios strategy, build the credibility with customers, regulators, investors and assurers that allows Clarios to conduct business in the most productive and competitive way consistent with Clarios’ Values.
How you will do it
  • Strategy & Direction: Shape the enterprise sustainability roadmap and translate customer, regulatory and investor expectations into priorities and resourcing decisions.
  • Track regulatory and market change (CSRD/ESRS, California SB 253/261, ISSB, SBTi, EU Battery Regulation) and brief senior leaders on impact, decisions and risk.
  • Carbon Accounting and Decarbonization: Own SBTi near‑term and net‑zero targets, Climate Risk Assessments, and energy and emissions baselining activities.
  • Build decarbonization roadmaps with Operations and Procurement, using abatement and cost modeling.
  • Set the methodology for the Scope 1–3 inventory (location‑and‑market‑based Scope 2) and product carbon footprints.
  • Reporting & Regulatory Readiness: Lead the annual sustainability report and regulatory and voluntary disclosures across all topic areas, including CSRD/ESRS, California SB 253/261, ISSB‑aligned reporting, CDP and EcoVadis.
  • Lead cross‑functional CSRD compliance workstream including the double materiality assessment, disclosure gap analysis and specific disclosures.
  • Consolidate customer requests and external questionnaires onto one governed data set and reporting calendar.
  • Respond to stakeholder information requests.
  • Assurance, Controls & Data Governance: Partner with Finance, Legal, Internal Audit, IT, and business data owners to establish disclosure governance, reporting controls, certification processes, and documented review procedures.
  • Lead limited assurance and prepare the organization for expanding assurance scope and rigor with external assurers, Finance and Internal Audit.
  • Govern ESG data platforms (e.g., Workiva) with IT, and drive automation of reporting workflows.
  • Team Leadership & Cross‑Functional Coordination: Lead and develop a team of direct and indirect reports: set priorities, review technical work and build bench strength.
  • Prepare sustainability reporting, risk, target‑performance, and regulatory‑readiness updates for executive leadership and applicable board or management committees; clearly identify decisions, trade‑offs, investment requirements, and areas of reporting risk.
  • Represent Clarios with customers, assurers and industry bodies.
  • Perform other duties, project tasks and project management responsibilities, as assigned from time‑to‑time.
What we look for
  • Required Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Finance or related quantitative field) required (Master’s or MBA preferred).
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in sustainability reporting, GHG accounting, climate strategy or sustainability assurance, including leading reporting, compliance or assurance programs at a large company or major consultancy; manufacturing or industrial experience expected.
  • Ownership of a multi‑site Scope 1–3 inventory and a published sustainability report or regulatory filing.
  • Working command of the GHG Protocol, CSRD/ESRS (including double materiality), SBTi and ISSB/IFRS S2; experience supporting an external assurance cycle.
  • Strong understanding of climate disclosure, transition planning and assurance requirements across the U.S., EU and ISSB‑aligned jurisdictions.
  • Experience designing sustainability data governance and internal controls in partnership with Finance and Internal Audit.
  • Strong quantitative skills: advanced Excel plus SQL or Python.
  • Proven ability to lead people and to influence senior stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Excellent relationship‑building skills with a professional demeanor and a track record of building solid relationships with relevant external and internal audiences across all management levels.
  • Experience in the battery, metals, chemicals or automotive‑supplier industries is a plus.
