Job description

Audubon is currently seeking a Director of Construction Services to join our team in our Mobile, AL office. The Director of Construction Services is responsible for leading all aspects of construction planning, execution, and delivery across the Heavy Industrial Business Unit. This role provides strategic direction, technical leadership, and operational oversight for multiple projects and teams, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

The Director partners closely with internal stakeholders, clients, contractors, and vendors to drive excellence in construction practices, implement best-in-class processes, and support the company’s growth and strategic objectives.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES :

Strategic Leadership & Planning

  • Develop and implement the overall strategy for the Construction Services function aligned with organizational goals.
  • Establish and maintain standardized processes, procedures, and best practices for project delivery.
  • Support business development efforts by contributing to proposals, estimates, and client presentations.
  • Oversee a portfolio of construction projects from concept through closeout, ensuring successful delivery.
  • Review and approve project scopes, schedules, budgets, and risk management plans.
  • Monitor project performance, address variances, and provide guidance to project managers and site leaders.
  • Ensure effective resource planning, workload balancing, and staffing across all projects.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Construction Services team (project managers, superintendents, coordinators, etc.).
  • Define clear roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations for team members.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Identify training and professional development needs and support career growth within the team.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Champion a strong safety culture and ensure strict adherence to all safety policies, regulations, and best practices.
  • Oversee quality control/quality assurance processes and ensure projects meet design and specification requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, industry standards, permits, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and manage the Construction Services budget, including overhead and project-related costs.
  • Review and approve project budgets, change orders, and major procurement decisions.
  • Track financial performance, forecasts, and profitability of the construction portfolio.

Stakeholder & Client Management

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for key clients on construction-related matters.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and subcontractors.
  • Proactively manage client expectations and resolve issues or disputes in a timely, professional manner.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Responsibilities:

  • Performing duties in a manner that protects personal and team health and safety
  • Participating in required HSE training, meetings, and reporting activities
  • Identifying and reporting hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions

EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS :

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field required.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering Management, or related field preferred.

Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in construction management, with at least 5 years in a leadership or director-level role.
  • Proven track record overseeing multiple concurrent construction projects, preferably in [commercial/industrial/infrastructure/residential – customize as needed].
  • Experience managing project teams, subcontractors, and multi-million-dollar project budgets.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, coach, and hold teams accountable.
  • Deep understanding of construction methods, materials, codes, and industry best practices.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; able to interface effectively with executives, clients, and field personnel.
  • Proficiency with construction management software and tools (e.g., Procore, MS Project, Primavera, or similar).
Working Conditions
  • Primarily office-based with regular visits to active job sites.
  • Exposure to construction environments including noise, weather, and physical site conditions when on-site.
  • Occasional travel may be required to support projects across different locations.
