Job summary

Panda Restaurant Group is seeking a Director of Construction in the United States to oversee construction for half of the annual new store openings. You will lead a team of Project Managers, coach staff, and coordinate with Operations to ensure timely openings and high-quality builds.

• 10+ years of construction project management experience, preferably in a retail/hospitality environment with increasing management responsibility
• Completion of initial and periodically required trainings
• Obtaining a valid Food Handler's Card within 30 days of employment

• Responsible for successful completion of half the new store openings based on assigned geography, ensuring construction meets company and industry standards and AHJ requirements.
• Leads a team of Construction Project Managers/Senior Project Managers, coaching and developing the project managers to elevate performance.
• Ensures company construction policies and procedures are followed and works with the VP on policy/process changes.
• Stays abreast of construction trends, tracks labor availability and cost of materials and their impact on store construction.
• Develops and implements general contractor (GC) strategic sourcing strategy that sets up a foundation for success.
• Oversees the effective use of project management software to track and manage the status of all construction projects.
• Coordinates Construction activities across RD functions and with Operations and external vendors.

The Director, Construction must integrate construction activities with other related departments, particularly Operations, to ensure predictable store openings and high-quality construction. This position develops and implements process improvement within the Construction function, including new standards, policies, and procedures. The Director, Construction ensures high quality customer service on behalf of Construction.

The Director, Construction must integrate construction activities with other related departments, particularly Operations, to ensure predictable store openings and high-quality construction. This position develops and implements process improvement within the Construction function, including new standards, policies, and procedures. The Director, Construction ensures high quality customer service on behalf of Construction.

Job Responsibilities

• Responsible for successful completion of half the new store openings based on assigned geography, ensuring construction meets company and industry standards and authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements. Ensures projects are completed appropriately so that operators can focus on start up (and not on construction or equipment issues).


• Leads a team of Construction Project Managers/Senior Project Managers, managing, coaching, and developing the project managers to foster their growth and elevate performance. Responsible for hiring, retaining, developing, and elevating associate performance to support the company’s growth strategies. Manages staff workload to create balance and back-up coverage.


• Ensures company construction policies and procedures are followed and works with the Vice President on policy/process changes. Develops and implements scalable construction processes to support rapid expansion without compromising quality or efficiency.


• Stays abreast of construction trends, particularly in the retail/hospitality industry. Tracks the availability of labor and the cost of materials and their impact on store construction. Implements new construction technologies and best practices (from the retail/hospitality industry).


• Develops and implements general contractor (GC) strategic sourcing strategy (preferred GC strategy) that sets up a foundation for success. Monitors team’s application of preferred GC framework.


• Oversees the effective use of project management software to track and manage the status of all construction projects. Uses data to gain insights into areas that require additional attention and improvement.


• Coordinates Construction activities across RD functions and with other affected departments, including Operations (RDOs), to ensure successful project completion. Collaborates and coordinates with external consultants and vendors. Fosters positive business relationships with internal and external contacts.

Work Environment

• Office conditions; travel to new stores and stores under construction as well as Operations Regional meetings: 50% - 60%; ability to climb on store roof

Your Background And Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture or Construction Management required.


• 10+ years of construction project management experience, preferably in a retail/hospitality environment with increasing management responsibility


• Successful completion of initial and periodically required trainings.


• Obtaining a valid Food Handler's Card within 30 days of employment is a requirement of this position.

Pay Range: M4: $161,000 - $226,000 / Annual
