Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina seeks a Director of Compliance to drive the organization’s regulatory readiness and culture of integrity. Reporting to the Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer, you will guide strategic direction, oversee regional compliance, collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders, and lead the enterprise-wide compliance program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a healthcare compliance-related field (legal studies, health information management, nursing, public policy, risk management, etc.).
• Master's degree in a healthcare compliance-related field (MBA, MPA, MHA, JD, MSN, MPH, etc.) plus 7+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience interpreting and operationalizing regulatory requirements (provider-based regs, CMS, Stark, anti-kickback, accreditation).
• Strong leadership, consultative and analytical skills; excellent interpersonal abilities.

Responsibilities

• Ensure timely remediation of compliance concerns from internal reports, hotline, and exit interviews.
• Develop compliant, evidence-based advice through targeted regulatory research.
• Monitor and interpret regulatory requirements to assess organizational risk and impact on operations.
• Direct the Facility Compliance Liaison Program to strengthen local ownership.
• Lead go-live readiness and ongoing compliance for provider-based entities with corrective action plans.
• Administer and optimize the compliance performance management system and case repository.
• Maintain current compliance standards (policies, Code of Conduct, Compliance Plan, Annual Report).
• Own design and governance of the compliance education program, including new-hire orientation and annual training.
• Ensure CMS First Tier, Downstream, and Related Entity compliance and oversee audits and corrective actions.
• Coordinate external audits, investigations, and self-reporting; address findings through action plans.
• Represent compliance in organizational councils to integrate compliance into decisions.
