Job summary

HMSA is seeking a senior leader to drive corporate giving, community sponsorships, and investments across Hawaii. You will advise executives, build strategic nonprofit partnerships, and ensure measurable impact while aligning with HMSA's community priorities and strategy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and ten years of related work experience in community engagement or corporate giving capacity, or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
  • Five years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to provide information in a formal presentation setting.
  • Strong organization and time management skills to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet project deadlines.
  • Project management skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for HMSA's corporate giving, community sponsorships and investments, including monetary donations, in-kind contributions, and employee volunteer engagement.
  • Advise executives on community investment decisions, board placements, fundraising participation, and external affiliations, provide preparation and support as needed.
  • Build and sustain strategic relationships with nonprofit, civic, and business leaders, among others, to advance HMSA's community impact and reputation.
  • Ensure giving and partnerships are aligned, measurable, and effectively communicated to maximize awareness, impact, and goodwill, both internally and externally.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify, design, and execute impactful community initiatives that improve the health and well-being of Hawaii.
  • Establish and map annual goals and priorities for community giving and engagement; develop tactical plans and engagement strategies to support those goals.
  • Maintain oversight of executive board and community affiliations, making recommendations to leadership to optimize alignment and impact.
  • Represent HMSA at key community coalitions, campaigns, task force, and public forums; speak on behalf of the organization with professionalism and strategic clarity.
  • Provide strategic oversight and/or management of major community initiatives, signature events, corporate events and internal/external programs or projects.
  • Lead or sponsor significant internal and external projects and events of varying scale, including department-wide initiatives, enterprise-wide projects, organization-wide projects, senior executive- and CEO-driven projects.
  • Partners with stakeholders to define project goals, anticipate and assess risks, and resolve issues ranging from routine operational barriers to complex cross-functional challenges.
  • Monitor progress across projects and events to ensure consistent standards, clear accountability, and timely delivery.
  • Prepare summaries, insights, and recommendations for leadership including senior executives and CEO, related to project outcomes, opportunities, and improvements.

  1. Corporate Giving

    • Develop, implement, and periodically update corporate policies and guidelines to ensure alignment with corporate strategy and community priorities.
    • Advise executives on community investment decisions, board placements, fundraising participation, and external affiliations, provide preparation and support as needed.
    • Build and sustain strategic relationships with nonprofit, civic, and business leaders, among others, to advance HMSA's community impact and reputation.
    • Ensure giving and partnerships are aligned, measurable, and effectively communicated to maximize awareness, impact, and goodwill, both internally and externally.

  2. Event, Project, and Program Management
    • Provide strategic oversight and/or management of major community initiatives, signature events, corporate events and internal/external programs or projects.
    • Lead or sponsor significant internal and external projects and events of varying scale, including department-wide initiatives, enterprise-wide projects, organization-wide projects, senior executive- and CEO-driven projects. Ensures efforts align with business objectives, timelines, scope, and budget.
    • Lead special events and projects in the direction of the CEO, including, but not limited to, HMSA-hosted trustee board meetings and Blue-plan conference planning.
    • Partner with stakeholders to define project goals, anticipate and assess risks, and resolve issues ranging from routine operational barriers to complex, cross functional challenges. Apply strategic problem solving to translate ambiguous or evolving business needs into clear, actionable solutions that drive successful project outcomes.
    • Monitor progress across projects and events to ensure consistent standards, clear accountability, and timely delivery.
    • Prepare summaries, insights, and recommendations for leadership including senior executives and CEO, related to project outcomes, opportunities, and improvements.
  3. Management
    • Lead a muti-disciplinary team responsible for community relations, corporate giving, and related programs, with direct reports that include professional-level staff and managers.
    • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture through clear priorities, accountability, effective delegation, and ongoing coaching.
    • Strengthen staff capabilities through mentoring, training, and leadership development opportunities in community engagement, giving strategy, and event management.
    • Manage external vendors and consultants as needed.
    • Ensure consistency, quality, and operational excellence across all community engagement activities.
  4. Administration
    • Oversee department budget and approve expenditures within authorized limits.
    • Track participation, outcomes, and effectiveness of community outreach, giving, and engagement initiatives. Conduct deeper analysis as needed to identify trends, measure impact, and use data-driven recommendations for program improvement.
    • Support broader departmental initiatives as needed.
  5. Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned or directed.
