Job Description
General Summary:

The Director, Supply Chain Management, Cell and Gene Therapy will lead the global commercial supply chain planning, strategy and operations for Vertex's Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) program. The strategy includes long term capacity build plans across the CDMO network, supply risk assessments, slot management and accountability for end-to-end supply chain operations throughout the patient journey. The Director is responsible for establishing internal compliance and business processes in support of commercialization. The Director is accountable for building the processes, systems and people to ensure Supply Chain launch readiness.

The Supply Chain Director has proven experience both managing and influencing large scale global supply chain networks. A leader in building both internal and external collaborations, the Director has advanced business acumen. The Director will have responsibility for the management and operations of a large group within the Supply Chain team. The Director has proven supervisory and leadership capabilities. As the leader of key supplier working teams, the Director will optimize interdisciplinary understanding and synergy within the groups and integrate activities with both the cross-functional team as well as manufacturers.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead overall supply chain strategy and operations for successful commercialization of Type 1 Diabetes program
  • Implement Global S&OP process
  • Lead recommendation for long term capacity build including multi-year investments across CDMO network
  • Define and deliver on supply chain program goals
  • End to end process mapping, ownership and delivery to patient
  • Implement governance for commercial supply chain operations including CDMO and internal manufacturing
  • Deliver Commercialization SOPs for inspection readiness and GxP compliance
  • Aligns Supply Chain model with Commercial patient management model
  • Identify and implement new processes and capabilities needed to support Cell and Gene Therapy programs including a forum for collaboration with Vertex's Cell and Gene Therapy site
  • Anticipate future industry trends and keep abreast with a strong foundational of knowledge of manufacturing and supply
  • Work in matrix team to ensure overall program readiness including Clinical, Systems, Logistics and International
  • Represent Supply Chain across several governance forums as well as Network Strategy
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully plan and optimize all resources of an area (budgets, staff, technology, etc.) for advancement of all goals and objectives
  • Ability to apply complex judgement and advanced analytical thought to develop novel/innovative solutions
  • Strong overall business acumen and understanding of the industry and business drivers
  • Highly specialized depth of knowledge on regulations relating to pharmaceutical supply chain activities (cGMP, GCP, GDP, import/export, computer systems/Part 11) as well as ERP/MRP systems, Oracle OPM
  • Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills, often addressing novel/unusual situations and exercising complex judgement based on significant technical experience and interpretive thinking
  • Exceptional skills in preparing and presenting informational and compelling reports, delivering to a variety of audiences
  • Drives effective, productive business relationships across the function and the organization
  • Highly skilled in managing customer, stakeholder or leadership expectations, communicating in complex or sensitive situations, facilitating mutually beneficial outcomes and influencing/guiding others to adopt a new point of view; skilled negotiator, able to resolve complex problems
  • Strong experience in building and managing high-performing teams

Pay Range:

$181,800 - $272,600

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
