Description:

Responsible for high-quality and efficient management of all HIM functions including coding activities and clinical documentation improvement functions. Record processing and completion, coding, clinical documentation improvement, abstracting, transcription, and release of information, along with performance improvement activities. Serves as a subject matter expert for use, disclosure, and retention of clinical medical records. Works closely with Patient Financial Services, Patient Access, Revenue Integrity, Legal Department, Risk Management, Clinical Informatics, Quality, Utilization Review, Case Management, Medical Staff, and Privacy Office. Protects confidentiality, integrity, and the unique patient identifier of clinical documents and their output. Directs overall activities of personnel to ensure accurate and timely processing of medical records according to Baptist Health South Florida policies and goals. Ensures complete, accurate, and timely processing of medical records and clinical documents according to TJC, CMS, and Baptist Health South Florida Medical Staff rules and regulations. Ensures that the clinical documentation program improves system-wide documentation in compliance with rules and regulations of all local, state, and federal agencies, and to the standards of all accrediting bodies. The estimated salary range for this position is $124,284.36 - $161,569.67 per year, depending on experience.

  • Bachelor's degree required.

Additional Qualifications:

  • RHIA, RHIT, or CCS preferred.
  • Management experience in a large, multi-hospital health information management department required.
  • At least five years of experience with release of information, document management systems, complete/accurate/timely medical records workflows, data quality, clinical documentation improvement programs, denial management, coding, and performance improvement.
  • Excellent leadership, verbal and written communication, problem-solving, personnel management, project management, and planning skills required.
  • Knowledgeable in HIPAA, use and disclosure of medical records, state and federal laws, TJC, National Quality Measures, health information systems, database management, and spreadsheet design.
  • Experience with Medicare MS-DRG and Medicaid APR-DRG assignments.
