Job summary

Datadog is seeking aDirector for Cloud Observability to own engineering across all clouds, guiding a team of ~40 engineers through Engineering Managers. You will shape the roadmap with product leadership, drive AI adoption, and manage cross-team dependencies across critical infrastructure domains.

You will mentor Engineering Managers toward Director readiness, build talent in NY, Boston, and Paris, and balance performance with cost in cloud environments.

Qualifications

• Directly managed Engineering Managers.
• Deep experience with one or more cloud providers.
• Solid understanding of cloud economics and balancing performance and cost in the cloud.
• AI-first thinking as core engineering practice.
• Track record shaping product decisions beyond a spec.
• Experience with large-scale, event-driven or data-intensive back-end systems.

Responsibilities

• Own engineering for all of Cloud Observability.
• Manage ~40 engineers through Engineering Managers; this is a manager-of-managers role.
• Shape the roadmap alongside product leadership; influence strategy for your area.
• Drive AI adoption across the engineering org; apply AI to tooling, workflows, features, and practices.
• Navigate cross-team dependencies across Agent, Telemetry Onboarding, Integrations, Action Platform, and Infrastructure Monitoring.
• Build and retain engineering talent in NYC, Boston, and Paris; mentor Engineering Managers toward Director readiness; participate in on-call rotation.
