Job summary

Xactus is seeking a Director of Cloud Engineering in the United States, focusing on Azure, AWS, and GCP. This leadership role manages a distributed team of engineers and administrators, driving secure, scalable cloud operations across multi-cloud environments.

You will own SLA performance, governance, and cost optimization, partnering with security and engineering leaders to align cloud strategy with business goals, while advocating automation with Terraform and Ansible.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of cloud engineers and systems administrators for multiple products.
• Establish and enforce best practices across cloud environments.
• Oversee team development and training to ensure proficiency in cloud technologies.
• Manage the design, implementation, and optimization of cloud infrastructure across multi-cloud environments.
• Collaborate with CISO, CTO, and engineering leaders to align cloud strategy with security, performance, and cost-efficiency goals.
• Drive the adoption of Terraform, Ansible, or similar IaC tools for automation and consistency.
• Provide operational leadership across the cloud engineering function and ensure SLA commitments.
• Own SLA performance for cloud operations, ensuring uptime, incident response, and change management targets.
• Implement cloud governance with Information Security to manage risks.
• Monitor and optimize cloud infrastructure for performance, security, and cost efficiency.
• Provide regular reports on cloud performance and budgetary impacts to leadership.

Summary

Director of Cloud Engineering is responsible for the leadership and management of Xactus’s cloud infrastructure across platforms such as Azure, AWS, and GCP. This role leads a cross-functional team of engineers and administrators, ensuring that cloud operations are secure, scalable, effectively maintained, and cost-efficient. The role carries strong operational leadership accountability, managing workstreams and workflows across the team and ensuring service levels and SLAs are consistently met.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of cloud engineers and systems administrators for multiple products.
• Establish and enforce best practices across cloud environments.
• Oversee team development and training to ensure proficiency in cloud technologies.
• Manage the design, implementation, and optimization of cloud infrastructure across multi-cloud environments (Azure, AWS, and GCP). Collaborate with CISO, CTO, and engineering leaders to align cloud strategy with security, performance, and cost-efficiency goals. Drive the adoption of Terraform, Ansible, or similar IaC tools for automation and consistency.
• Provide operational leadership across the cloud engineering function, including managing day-to-day workstreams and workflows, prioritizing team capacity, and driving execution against commitments.
• Own SLA performance for cloud operations, ensuring uptime, incident response, and change management targets are consistently met and reported to leadership.
• Implement cloud governance practices in cooperation with Information Security team to manage risks and vulnerabilities.
• Work closely with information security teams to remediate vulnerabilities, adjust configurations, and ensure the cloud infrastructure meets evolving security requirements.
• Monitor and optimize cloud infrastructure for performance, security, and cost efficiency.
• Provide regular reports on cloud performance and budgetary impacts to leadership.

Education And/Or Experience

• 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure roles with at least 5 years in cloud engineering or architecture.
• Proven leadership experience managing remote, distributed teams, including ownership of team workstreams, workflows, and SLA-driven performance.
• Extensive experience with Azure, AWS, GCP, and related cloud platforms.
• Cloud certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Google Professional Cloud Architect are highly desirable.

Skills And Competentcies

• Expertise in infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform and Ansible.
• Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures and multi-cloud strategies.
• Expertise in automation, scripting (PowerShell, Python, Bash), and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins or GitHub Actions).
• Experience administering and scaling GitHub Enterprise, including repository governance, access controls, and workflow automation.
• Demonstrated operational leadership skills, able to manage competing workstreams, coordinate cross-team workflows, and hold the team accountable to SLA commitments.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
