Summary

Ensures safe and effective care delivery within assigned areas 24/7. Manages all material, financial, and human resources within these areas. Ensures competent staff performance and promotes staff development. Acts as the primary retention and recruitment officer for the unit. Complies with hospital and clinical service philosophies, policies, procedures, and protocols.

Job Duties

• Ensures the delivery of quality patient care in assigned areas.
• Demonstrates full responsibility and accountability for all unit activities. Fosters staff accountability for adherence to policies, procedures, and professional practices.
• Manages staff in designated areas. Serves as the primary retention and recruitment officer for the unit.
• Coaches and mentors staff to achieve goals and address needs.
• Collaborates with stakeholders in planning for the department, Patient Care Services, and organization.
• Administers medical staff; develops and achieves measurable, time-limited goals aligned with hospital mission, strategic plan, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Promotes the development of a Shared Governance Model on the unit by establishing and fostering unit committees and councils focused on practice, quality, staffing, and scheduling.
• Supports personal and professional growth of self and staff.
• Manages financial aspects of the department within budgetary targets, accounting for variances.
• Supports hospital and Patient Care Services philosophies, policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Ensures staff adherence to regulatory requirements (OSHA, HIPAA, TJC, ADA, etc.) and educates on same.
• Promotes evidence-based practice and research.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related field.
• At least 3 years of recent experience in practice or related specialty, demonstrating leadership abilities.
• RN - Licensed Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Nursing.

Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples include pushing/pulling patients on beds or stretchers (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of patient weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. Activities may include kneeling, bending, squatting, and performing CPR.
