Job summary

Providence Saint John's Medical Foundation in California seeks a Director of Clinical Operations to build robust operational infrastructure, support physicians and patients, and drive organizational performance across complex care environments.

You will partner with the Chief Executive and other leaders to budget, set goals, sustain quality and service, oversee staff and clinic managers, and align day‑to‑day operations with strategic priorities for improved patient care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or comparable field.
• Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or comparable field; or equivalent education/experience (preferred).
• 5+ years of experience as a healthcare leader with a proven track record in healthcare management, operations and corporate functions.
• Financial, business development, complex project management, marketing, analytical, team building and collaborative skills are essential.
• Proven change management skills including crafting strategic direction and managing processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead operational infrastructure efforts to support physicians, patients, and medical group operations in California.
• Ensure long-term success through excellence in operations, outcomes, quality, service, staff and physician satisfaction, and financial viability.
• Prepare budgets, goals, and objectives with input from providers and executives.
• Supervise staff, including clinic administrators, managers and support staff.
• Hold regular staff meetings to discuss methods for improving customer service, efficiency, and performance.
• Partner with campus leadership on business operations and strategy.
• Maintain current knowledge in ambulatory care and health IT to improve care.
• Ensure accreditation and reporting standards are met.
• Coordinate with management to meet strategic goals and drive performance.

The Role

Supporting Providence Saint John's Medical Foundation, the Director Clinical Operations is responsible for leading and creating Operational Infrastructure efforts to support Physicians and Patients primarily in the California region.

Assures long-term organizational success through overall excellence of operations, outcomes, quality, service, staff and physician satisfaction, financial viability and leadership.

What You'll Do

• Respects the dignity, confidentiality and privacy of patients.
• Works in a safe manner, adhering to general safety precautions and standards. Reports any unsafe conditions to their supervisor and/or the safety hotline.
• Understands, supports, and implements the mission of Providence Health Services Medical Foundation to deliver health care to those in need in the performance of all job responsibilities.
• Ensures compliance with policies and procedures including the recording of community benefit services and costs.
• With the Chief Executive and other executives, prepares and recommends budgets, goals, and objectives taking into consideration input from providers.
• Supervises staff, including clinic administrators, managers and support staff as assigned by the Chief Executive. Provides selection, training, disciplining, terminating, performance improvement, and mentorship related to day-to-day operations.
• Holds regular staff meetings to discuss methods for improving customer service, efficient and safe operations, and overall medical group performance.
• Informs staff members of changes to policies and procedures.
• Partners with other campus leadership on business operations and strategy.
• Maintains current knowledge in the field of ambulatory care.
• Formulates plans to meet strategic goals and coordinates with other management.
• Ensures that organizational and regional goals are met and that all accrediting and reporting standards are complied with.
• Keeps abreast of medical group performance, operations and special projects.
• Demonstrates competency with all position-related software programs.
• Demonstrates consistent use of appropriate tactics for excellent service.

What You'll Bring

Education & Credentials

• Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or comparable field.
• Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or comparable field; or equivalent education/experience (preferred).

Experience & Expertise

• 5 years of experience as a healthcare leader with a proven track record in multiple areas of healthcare management, operations and corporate functions, and/or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Financial, business development, complex project management, marketing, analytical, team building and collaborative working skills are essential.
• Proven change management skills including crafting strategic direction, working with institutional infrastructure and processes, and effectively directing/managing tactical processes.
• Knowledge and skills in medical group management and health systems operations and reimbursement highly desired.

Professional & Leadership Capabilities

• Must be adaptable; able to balance daily operations, problem solving, and physician relations while retaining strategic focus and driving long-term results.
• Able to achieve goals in a working environment that uses multiple modalities of communication and computer applications.
• Must be skilled in verbal and written communication.
• Knowledge of the use of health information technology to improve care.

The full pay range is listed in accordance with applicable law. Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, organizational compensation alignment, and the approved hiring department budget for the position. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation and benefits.
