Job description

The Director will play a critical role on DMG’s Breakthrough Results (BTR) team, leading partnerships with K-12 public education leaders and owning the achievement of results for students.

WHAT IS BREAKTHROUGH RESULTS?

Breakthrough Results is DMG’s School Improvement Program, which brings improvement science to school districts. We partner with districts to identify strategic goals and then work with teams of teachers to break those into bite-sized, winnable goals that can be attained over 10-week cycles. We bring a structured approach, project management, data visualization, and performance coaching to weekly meetings with teacher teams to unlock results and ultimately move the needle on big goals for districts.

LOCATION

DMGroup's headquarters are located in Boston, MA. This role will be expected to report to the Boston office on a regular basis (3 days per week) with some flexibility to work remotely as business needs allow.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

You are the right fit for our team if you:

  • Are extremely goal-oriented, believing profoundly in getting results, and operating with a sense of urgency to do so
  • Can bring a strategic, structured thinking lens to our work
  • Understand how schools, and districts, operate – and what holds them back
  • Take full ownership of your work and its outcomes, including accountability when things don’t go as planned
  • Engage with intellectual curiosity always, seeking the “why” behind everything
  • Are committed to continuous improvement
  • Are willing to jump in wherever needed—no job is too small
  • Have the presence to own a room with senior district leaders, online and in person
  • Want to lead and build our division and our work
  • Are detail-oriented and committed to producing high quality, data-rich work for clients
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Client Results:
  • Own client results, first and foremost—ensuring that district clients and teacher teams achieve, and experience, measurable results, and taking accountability for diagnosing and course-correcting when progress stalls.
  • Lead the design of the BTR program in alignment with district strategic goals, including:
  • Guiding clients to set ambitious yet achievable SMART goals in service of district strategic goals.
  • Advising clients on selecting or crafting rigorous pre-assessment, post-assessment, and progress monitoring tools and frameworks.
  • Shaping the approach for ongoing data review.
  • Set the vision for how results are shared, building compelling, data-driven narratives that diagnose issues, demonstrate the value of clients’ BTR work, and help them glean insights to advance outcomes.
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for the client relationship, owning the client’s experience of the BTR process and leading sponsorship meetings with senior district leaders as well as ongoing informal touchpoints.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the client context and the critical factors that will shape their experience and use it to anticipate challenges and drive success.
  • Cultivate client relationships to support future sales, identifying opportunities to renew and expand partnerships and contributing to business development.
  • Lead and develop junior team members in service of client results.
  • Structure team workflow to ensure talent is best leveraged to achieve outcomes.
  • Provide regular, direct feedback, including concrete feedback for each project and specific quarterly performance feedback.
  • Serve on the BTR Management Team, contributing to strategy and driving ongoing program improvements.
  • Hold the project-based performance coaches who work with teacher teams accountable for results, ensuring that they: 1) are relentlessly pursuing results, 2) are matched appropriately to programs based on best fit for program success, 3) are managed rigorously, and 4) are receiving regular feedback on their practice.
Data Visualization and Operations:
  • Set the standard for data tools and visualizations, ensuring they are timely, accurate, and actionable for teams.
  • Own the operational and logistical execution required to achieve results.
  • Work collaboratively with internal staff to ensure the continued growth and effectiveness of DMG’s programs, including our membership network and events, research and publications, software, and consulting.

Other duties as reasonably assigned.
