Job summary

UC Irvine invites applications for the Director of the Korematsu Center at the UC Irvine School of Law. This role oversees finance, HR, facilities, and program administration for a public-interest academic center, including conferences, advocacy, and fundraising.

The candidate should hold a JD with CA bar admission or eligibility and have at least 3 years in trial and appellate litigation, with strong leadership and communication skills to advance civil rights work regionally and nationally.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate with admission or eligibility to practice in California.
• Active State or DC Bar License; California Bar preferred.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Minimum of 3 years of trial and appellate litigation experience.
• Experience with fundraising and program development is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Strategic & Litigation Planning: set center agenda and goals, engage in priority setting for advocacy.
• Litigation Management: track deadlines, manage filings, develop relationships with advocacy groups.
• Report Drafting: research and draft reports on inequality in the criminal legal system.
• Fundraising: support grant prospecting and grant writing, and fundraising activities.
• Programmatic Development: design and implement student fellow programs and joint projects.
• External partnerships: cultivate relationships with pro bono counsel and law firms.
