Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of contemporary antisemitism, Israel-related issues, Jewish communal affairs, public policy, or intergroup relations preferred.
  • Experience in community relations, public affairs, government relations, advocacy, education, communications, nonprofit leadership, or a related field.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate sensitive and complex issues with professionalism and sound judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key representative of the Federation to external stakeholders and community partners.
  • Lead the strategic response to antisemitism incidents coordinating with partners, law enforcement, schools and leaders.
  • Design proactive approaches to fight antisemitism and hate in Central Virginia.
  • Serve as a spokesperson at community forums, educational programs, media opportunities, and public events.
  • Support relationships with local and state elected officials and public agencies on antisemitism education and response.
  • Develop and lead educational initiatives for Jewish community members, students, educators and families.
  • Support advocacy efforts on Federation and community concerns.
  • Develop relationships with K-12 schools, higher education institutions, and educational leaders.
  • Launch a Speakers Bureau of trusted leaders in Israel Education, History, Hate and coexistence.
  • Foster efforts to address antisemitism and bias in various settings.
  • Partner with Federation volunteers and lay leaders in public affairs and community relations.

The Director is a dynamic, externally facing role that helps advance the Jewish Federation's community relations, education, and antisemitism response efforts. Working closely with the Director, Jewish Community Relations Committee, and reporting to the CEO, Federation volunteer leaders, and community partners, this professional will coordinate key initiatives, cultivate relationships across the broader community, develop educational resources, and help ensure the Federation responds thoughtfully and effectively to antisemitic incidents and emerging issues.

Serving as a key representative of the Federation and the Jewish community, this professional will serve as a frontline leader in the Federation’s response to antisemitism. This role will strengthen community partnerships, create educational initiatives, engage lay leaders, and advance the Federation’s position as a trusted voice across the broader community. They will build trusted relationships with faith leaders, educational institutions, civic organizations, business leaders, elected officials, and other community stakeholders.

This position requires exceptional judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to navigate complex and evolving community issues while fostering collaboration across diverse stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop relationships with K-12 schools, higher education institutions, and educational leaders to support awareness of Jewish communal issues and strengthen response to Antisemitic incidents.
  • Launch a Speakers Bureau of trusted and knowledgeable leaders in the fields of Israel Education, History, Hate and coexistence building
