Job summary

Howden Re is seeking a Director on the Catastrophe Analytics team to advise clients on catastrophe risk using advanced modeling outputs. You will join a best-in-class analytics group delivering innovative solutions in a collaborative environment.

With 8+ years in catastrophe modeling, you will work across data prep, validation, portfolio analysis, and reporting, communicating technical insights to diverse stakeholders and improving processes for client success.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years experience in catastrophe modeling and risk management.
  • Proficient data analysis, manipulation and visualization tools and languages such as SQL, Excel, R, Python, Power BI, ArcGIS.
  • Experience with cat modeling software (Verisk Touchstone, RMS RiskLink) and understanding of model methodology.
  • Knowledge of property insurance and reinsurance; ARe designation is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Mathematics, Statistics, CS, Economics, Finance or similar analytical major.
  • Legally authorized to work in the US.

Responsibilities

  • Execute all aspects of catastrophe modeling including data prep, portfolio analysis and postprocessing.
  • Report results, visualize data, and map outputs for internal and client use.
  • Respond to queries from stakeholders on exposure data, cat events and risk view.
  • Design and manage catastrophe reinsurance programs using proprietary software.
  • Improve analytical processes for greater efficiency and client results.
  • Establish strong relationships with colleagues, clients and reinsurers.

About the Role:

As a Director on the Catastrophe Analytics team, you will collaborate with colleagues to advise Howden Re clients in managing catastrophe risk. Experience using, interpreting, and applying outputs from catastrophe models is required. You will be joining a best-in class analytics team that produces innovative solutions in a collaborative and results-driven environment.

Primary Responsibilities :
  • Execute upon all aspects of catastrophe modeling, including data preparation and validation, portfolio analysis and postprocessing, reporting of results, data visualization and mapping.
  • Be responsive to a range of queries from internal and external stakeholders on topics including property exposure data, real-time cat events, cat model validation, view of risk, portfolio profitability and optimization.
  • Strategic thinking, problem solving, and communication of technic al concepts to range of stakeholders are core to success in this role.
  • Use proprietary software to design and manage catastrophe reinsurance programs
  • Improve analytical processes to achieve greater efficiency and better results for clients
  • Establish strong relationships with colleagues, clients and reinsurers
Qualifications:
  • 8+ years experience in catastrophe modeling and risk management
  • High level of proficiency in data analysis, manipulation, and visualization tools and program languages such as SQL, Excel, R, Python, Power BI, and ArcGIS.
  • Experience with cat modeling software (i.e. Verisk Touchstone, RMS RiskLink) and an understanding of model methodology, practical uses, and limitations.
  • Knowledge of property insurance and reinsurance; ARe designation is a plus
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a results-driven environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts succinctly.
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Finance or similar analytical major.
  • Legally authorized to work in the US.
  • The expected base salary range for this role is $130,000-190,000.

The base salary range and ultimate title is based on level of relevant experience and location and does not include other types of compensation such as discretionary
