$156,240.00/yr - $186,000.00/yr

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is looking to add to our Development Office and has a new opportunity for a Director, Business Intelligence. This position will lead and oversee the Business Intelligence (BI) strategy and operations within the organization. This role is responsible for transforming data into actionable insights, building and maintaining BI systems, and enabling data-driven decision-making at all levels of the organization. The Director, BI will collaborate with key stakeholders to drive organizational performance through effective reporting, analysis, data visualization, modeling, and scenario forecasting. This position reports to the Chief Development Officer.

“This position is eligible to work remotely (8 or less days a month onsite) or hybrid (9 or more days a month onsite) in accordance with our Telecommuting Policy. Applicants must reside in Kansas or Missouri or be willing to relocate as a condition of employment.”

What you’ll do

·Lead the BI department, providing vision and direction for data visualization, reporting, and analytics. Develop and implement the BI roadmap, aligning it with business objectives. Collaborate with senior executives to understand business goals and translate them into actionable data insights. Manage BI projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely and successful delivery.

·Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of BI professionals. Promote a collaborative environment where team members are encouraged to share insights and best practices.

·Oversee the collection and analysis of business data. Ensure data quality, accuracy, and consistency across systems. Lead the team as they utilize advanced analytics, dashboards, and data visualization tools to present key insights to stakeholders.

·Deliver regular reports, dashboards, and presentations to senior leadership, providing insights into business performance. Communicate approach and assumptions in a manner appropriate to various stakeholders and audiences. Present findings in a clear, actionable format to non-technical stakeholders. Provide data-driven recommendations to improve business performance and efficiency.

·Support predictive analytics and forecasting initiatives to help the organization anticipate trends, market changes, and opportunities for improvement. Leverage advanced analytics and data science techniques to inform business decisions, while understanding and recognizing inappropriate interpretations and uses of such methods and results.

·Work closely with IT, data engineering, marketing, finance, and other departments to gather requirements, implement BI solutions, and ensure smooth data flow. Drive a data-centric culture within the organization by promoting the use of data for decision-making.

·Lead and mentor the BI internship program, overseeing recruitment, training, and project assignments to ensure a valuable learning experience and pipeline for future talent.

·Manage and oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of departmental/project budgets, ensuring expenses are within allocated limits and aligned with organizational goals.

What you need

·Master's degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field.

·Minimum of 7+ years' experience in business intelligence, data analytics, or related roles, with a strong working knowledge of advanced analytics, data modeling, and BI tools.

·Minimum of 4+ years' experience leading teams.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

·Ability to develop a long-term BI strategy aligned with organizational goals. Strong understanding of business strategy, with the ability to make informed decisions about how data can support broader business objectives. Capability to forecast trends and anticipate the need for new data insights in support of evolving business strategies.

·Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team of data professionals. Experience in creating a collaborative culture within the BI team and across departments. Proven ability to build and scale a BI department in line with the organization's needs and goals. Mentorship and coaching skills to nurture talent and foster a culture of continuous learning.

·In-depth understanding of how business processes work and how data can be leveraged to improve these processes. Cross-functional collaboration skills, working with departments like marketing, finance, IT, and operations to gather requirements and align BI initiatives with business needs. Strong problem-solving abilities to understand business challenges and deliver BI solutions that enhance performance.

·Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex findings in a simple and effective manner to both technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to present findings visually through dashboards, reports, and presentations that are easy to understand. Effective at managing stakeholder expectations and ensuring that BI deliverables align with business priorities.

·Ability to adapt to new technologies and evolving business needs. Experience managing change within the organization as BI practices evolve and grow. Ability to drive cultural change, promoting the importance of data-driven decision-making throughout the organization.

·Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data problems and come up with creative solutions. Critical thinking skills to evaluate data from various sources, identify patterns, and generate valuable insights.

·Proven ability to manage BI projects from concept to delivery, ensuring they meet business needs, deadlines, and budgets. Knowledge of agile methodologies and ability to apply them to BI processes. Capacity to prioritize multiple projects and balance competing demands.

·Extensive knowledge of business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI). Familiarity with data management concepts such as ETL (Extract, Transform, Load), data warehousing, and data governance. Cloud computing knowledge (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and familiarity with data integration in cloud environments. Advanced database management and SQL skills. Extensive knowledge in data science concepts (e.g., machine learning, stochastic modeling, predictive analytics) to incorporate advanced analytics into BI processes.
