Job summary

UFCU seeks a senior leader to own and direct the business development and strategic partnership function in Houston. You will drive long-term growth, expand partnerships across higher education, healthcare, and employer groups, and manage a robust opportunity pipeline.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field; experience considered in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years in business development, strategic partnerships, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of management and supervisory leadership experience.
  • Proven ability identifying, cultivating, and advancing new business and partnership opportunities.
  • Experience building pipelines and executing market-entry strategies; executive relationships.

Job description

  • Direct and oversee UFCU’s business development and new partnership development function
  • Identify, cultivate, and advance strategic partnership opportunities supporting long-term growth, member expansion, and community impact
  • Lead expansion into targeted markets, including higher education, the Houston Medical District, healthcare ecosystems, employer groups, and priority community or institutional segments
  • Develop market-specific growth strategies and manage a robust prospective-partnership pipeline
  • Research and prioritize prospective partners based on strategic fit, growth potential, member opportunity, community impact, and mission alignment
  • Develop executive relationships with decision‑makers, centers of influence, and key stakeholders
  • Create partnership strategies, value propositions, and engagement models
  • Lead discovery conversations, needs assessments, business cases, proposal strategy, presentations, and negotiation support
  • Represent UFCU at industry events, higher education forums, healthcare events, community convenings, networking opportunities, and partner meetings
  • Provide market intelligence, competitive insights, and partner feedback to inform business development and growth priorities
  • Ensure smooth transition from new partnership development to ongoing relationship stewardship and partner success
  • Establish and monitor measures for partnership development, market expansion, pipeline growth, strategic initiatives, and conversion outcomes
  • Lead, motivate, train, coach, and develop the Business Development team
  • Collaborate with Retail, Marketing, Lending, Wealth Management, Commercial Services, Operations, Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Finance
  • Participate in strategic planning and translate growth priorities into market‑entry plans, prospecting strategies, relationship plans, and milestones
  • Develop tools, processes, reporting mechanisms, and decision frameworks for partnership evaluation and pipeline management
  • Establish and manage the annual business development and partnership‑development budget
  • Monitor expenses, evaluate performance against budget, and adjust activities as needed
  • Adhere to organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and internal controls, including BSA, AML, USA PATRIOT Act, OFAC, and Fair Lending regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Finance, Public Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related field; experience considered in lieu of degree
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of related experience in business development, strategic partnerships, market development, relationship management, community engagement, financial services, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of management and supervisory leadership experience developing and leading teams with direct reporting relationships
  • Demonstrated experience identifying, cultivating, and advancing new business, community, institutional, or strategic partnership opportunities
  • Demonstrated experience building pipeline, managing prospects, developing market‑entry strategies, and executing business development initiatives
  • Experience developing executive‑level relationships and representing an organization with senior external stakeholders, community leaders, or institutional decision‑makers
  • Must be bondable

  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, listening, and presentation skills
  • Strong project management, opportunity management, negotiation support, and executive presentation skills
  • Expert knowledge of business development, strategic partnerships, market expansion, relationship development, and community engagement principles
  • Strong understanding of financial services, credit union business models, member growth strategies, and community‑based partnership opportunities
  • Strong analytical capability using market intelligence, CRM data, pipeline reporting, and performance metrics
  • Preferred: Master's degree; five (5) years of strategic leadership experience; credit union or financial services experience; partnerships with higher education, healthcare, employer groups, nonprofit, public sector, or community institutions; CRM platforms, pipeline management, market analytics, partnership performance reporting, proposal development, or strategic account planning
