Job summary

Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union is seeking a Business Development Officer in Lowell, MA to grow business deposits and commercial lending relationships. You will develop strategic plans, cultivate new business members, and partner with internal teams to cross-sell deposit products and treasury solutions.

You will represent the Credit Union at community events, build local networks, monitor performance, and deliver proactive guidance to members with a consultative approach.

Qualifications

Business Development Officer

The Business Development Officer is responsible for developing, expanding and retaining business banking deposit relationships as well as commercial loans for the Credit Union. This role focuses on identifying, cultivating, and managing relationships with business members and prospects to drive deposit growth and enhance business engagement.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Business Development, Deposit Growth and Commercial Lending

  • Develop and execute a strategic plan to increase business deposits and service utilization.
  • Identify, cultivate, and convert new business members through proactive outreach, networking, and community engagement.
  • Partner with internal teams to cross-sell business deposit products, merchant services, commercial loans and treasury management solutions.
  • Track and manage a pipeline of prospective business relationships, maintaining regular contact with leads.
  • Collaborate closely with Retail Banking and other departments throughout the credit union to deliver holistic relationship banking, ensuring a consultative approach to meet member needs.
  • Identify and assess commercial lending needs for new and existing small business members; manage loan submissions through the Small Business Lending Portal to ensure efficient processing and follow-up.

Relationship Management and Retention

  • Serve as the primary contact for business members, providing personalized financial guidance and proactive service.
  • Deepen relationships with existing members through regular reviews, product education, and needs-based consultations.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure a seamless member experience and identify referral opportunities.
  • Ensure business members receive prompt, expert-level service to strengthen loyalty and satisfaction.

Community Engagement and Market Development

  • Represent the Credit Union at business associations, chamber events, trade shows, and other community activities.
  • Build and maintain strong networks with local professionals (e.g., CPAs, attorneys, and real estate agents).
  • Identify partnership opportunities with community organizations to promote business deposit solutions.

Market and Product Expertise

  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the Credit Union's business deposit and cash management offerings.
  • Monitor competitive trends and recommend adjustments to deposit products or pricing to support growth objectives.
  • Stay informed of emerging technologies, banking tools, and member expectations related to business banking.

Reporting and Performance Management

  • Track individual production and performance metrics aligned with department goals.
  • Provide regular feedback and reporting on business development results, deposit growth, and market trends.

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Participate in cross-departmental initiatives and Credit Union-wide strategic projects as needed.
Knowledge and Skills

Experience: Three to five years of experience in business banking, commercial deposits, or relationship management required. Proven success in business development and community engagement preferred.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance or related field required or equivalent experience.

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with business professionals, community leaders, and internal stakeholders.
  • High degree of discretion, diplomacy, and professionalism.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for local travel.
