Job Description: Director, Business Development (Merchant) - Paze

Positions are located in Scottsdale, San Francisco, Chicago, or New York with a hybrid work model to promote collaboration.

Overall Purpose

The Director, Business Development (BD) - Merchant, is an eCommerce sales expert responsible for executing the Paze merchant sales strategy, developing strategic plans, and establishing relationships with C-suite and cross-functional teams to sell Paze digital checkout and wallet payment services to strategic U.S. enterprise merchants. This 'hunter' sales role also involves leading and developing the Merchant Business Development team to drive success. The role collaborates with internal teams to refine sales strategies and works closely with partners to sell Paze solutions, ensuring high customer satisfaction during merchant onboarding.

Essential Functions

  • Selling Paze digital wallet and checkout solutions to targeted U.S. merchant customers.
  • Building influential relationships with key decision-makers at U.S. merchants and payment providers.
  • Presenting the value and vision of Paze to stakeholders, gaining buy-in, and navigating complex negotiations.
  • Executing go-to-market plans to drive early customer adoption.
  • Leading and supporting a high-performing sales team, including coaching and mentoring.
  • Providing regular pipeline updates to management and cross-functional teams.
  • Negotiating aligned with Paze strategies and driving continuous sales process improvements.
  • Managing multiple prospects and projects, building trust and representing complex issues effectively.
  • Coordinating with channel partners and resellers to align account plans with sales strategies.
  • Maintaining detailed records of interactions in Salesforce.com for accurate forecasting.
  • Driving process improvements and mentoring the sales team.
  • Providing market and customer insights to product and marketing teams to enhance go-to-market success.
  • Supporting risk management and safeguarding system and data integrity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field.
  • Experience closing eCommerce deals and engaging C-level decision-makers within payment/fintech and merchant industries.
  • 10+ years of consultative/strategic sales experience in merchant payments, with deep eCommerce expertise.
  • 5+ years of sales team management, including hiring, mentoring, and exceeding targets.
  • Proven success in eCommerce, FinTech sales, and merchant services to enterprise clients.
  • Track record of quota achievement in fast-growing markets.
  • Strong strategic selling, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Self-driven with strong collaboration skills.
  • Background check and drug screening required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Higher-level education preferred.
  • Proficiency with CRM tools, especially Salesforce.com.
  • Experience working in a matrixed organization.
  • Experience in high-growth fintech firms and building sales teams.

Compensation

In Phoenix, AZ, and Chicago, IL: $170,000 - $190,000/year

In San Francisco, CA, and New York, NY: $180,000 - $220,000/year

Includes potential sales incentives, benefits, and discretionary bonuses. Compensation is subject to factors like market rates, location, experience, and internal equity.

Physical Requirements

Primarily sedentary office work involving extensive computer use, with occasional standing, walking, and lifting up to 10 pounds. Must be able to communicate effectively and travel as needed.
