Director, Buros Center for Testing; Full Professor

The Buros Center for Testing at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln seeks an accomplished academic leader to serve as Director. The Director is the chief executive and academic leader of the Center, overseeing its research mission, financial sustainability, and impact in the field of testing and assessment.

Responsibilities
  • Academic and Editorial Leadership: Edit the journal *Applied Measurement in Education*; supervise personnel and manage daily operations of the Center; teach, advise, and mentor students in the department of Educational Psychology; report to the CEHS Dean and hold a faculty appointment.
  • Psychometric and Evaluation Services: Direct projects on independent evaluation of test quality and fairness; provide technical consultation and oversight for proprietary testing programs in education, licensure, certification, and employment; ensure the integrity of test reviews and maintain the Oscar K. Buros Library of Mental Measurements.
  • Advocacy and Administration: Promote assessment literacy through outreach, webinars, and workshops; initiate, develop, and secure grant and contract activities for the Center’s research and development; represent the Center on national and international committees related to testing standards, policy, and ethics; manage financial resources, physical space, and personnel.
Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in educational psychology, psychometrics, measurement, or a closely related field.
  • Nationally recognized academic and scholarly achievements supporting the rank of full professor with tenure, according to CEHS and UNL standards.
  • Strong scholarly record with peer‑reviewed publications and sustained contributions to your field.
  • Evidence of success in obtaining and managing externally funded grants and contracts.
  • Proven ability to mentor and support staff and colleagues across the career span.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, especially with faculty, staff, administrators, funding agencies, and external partners.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in higher education, such as directing a research center or large program of research.
  • Nationally recognized achievement in psychometrics and measurement.
  • Experience managing a complex enterprise, including financial, physical, and human resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across disciplinary and programmatic boundaries.
  • Active leadership roles in prominent professional organizations, e.g., the American Psychological Association and the National Council on Measurement in Education.
