Job summary

Abzena Bristol is seeking an Associate Director of Bioconjugation Development to lead discovery and development activities, including conjugation, downstream purification and scale‑up. Qualifications

• PhD or BS/MS in biochemical sciences or bio‑engineering with industry experience (>3 years post-PhD, >6 years post-MS/BS).
• Experience in preparative purification of biological molecules (antibodies, carriers, viruses).
• Expertise in normal flow and tangential flow filtrations (TFF, UF/DF).
• Knowledge of strategies for optimization of bioprocesses and experimental design (DoE).
• Hands‑on experience with preparative chromatography systems (AKTA Pilot/Ready/Explorer).
• cGMP manufacturing operations and GxP principles knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Bioconjugation Development department operations and plan resources to deliver client and company projects from assignment to completion.
• Hands‑on execution of chromatographic purifications and membrane filtrations; buffer/prep and conjugation work‑ups.
• Perform and optimize bioanalytical characterization (HPLC, UPLC, LC‑MS, MALDI, MALS, colorimetric assays).
• Lead client communications as bioconjugation SME; support sales/proposals with design and costing of activities.
• Mentor and manage assigned reports; monitor KPIs and team performance.
• Provide on‑floor SME support during complex manufacturing operations as needed.
• Coordinate with QA/QC and Management for tox/GLP batch development.
