Job summary
Cooley LLP is seeking a Senior Manager of Career Counseling to establish and lead the Career Counseling Office, guiding attorneys through career transitions with personalized support, resume and interview coaching, and connection to external opportunities. The role blends strategic leadership with hands-on coaching and programming.
The position is hybrid, offers oversight of programs and collaborations across colleagues, alumni, and external partners, and supports attorneys at pivotal moments in
Qualifications
- 7+ years in attorney career development or related field; management experience preferred.
- Experience advising lawyers on career transitions, including in-house moves.
- Familiarity with legal markets, legal operations and hiring needs.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Career Counseling Office and supervise direct reports.
- Provide one-on-one counseling for attorneys seeking non-firm roles in-house, public sector, or similar paths.
- Develop and manage a curated job board and external opportunities network.
- Create panels, webinars and programs to support career navigation and transitions.
- Partner with alumni, marketing and BD teams to connect departing attorneys with opportunities.
- Track metrics on counseling volume, outcomes and placements.
