Mississippi State University seeks a Director of the Northern Gulf Aquatic Food Research Program–Aquatic Food Science to lead innovative post-harvest seafood research and manage an analytical safety laboratory serving the seafood and catfish industries.

The role includes obtaining external funding from NOAA, USDA, NSF, NIH and collaborating with MSU units and government partners to advance science, publish findings, and mentor graduate students.

Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate in Food Science, Food Chemistry, Food and Process Engineering, Food Microbiology, Food Toxicology or closely related field.
  • Excellent communication skills, and must be able to plan experiments, and analyze data using statistics.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an innovative research program to advance science and technology of catfish and other aquatic raw food materials during post-harvest processing and storage.
  • Manage an analytical aquatic foods safety testing laboratory in support of the seafood and catfish industries, collaborating with MSU and government partners.
  • Obtain external research grants from NOAA, USDA, NSF, NIH, and others to build a nationally and internationally recognized program.
  • Collaborate with CREC and other MSU units and with USDA ARS and regional universities to foster productive partnerships.
  • Build relationships with the coastal aquatic industry and stakeholders to address needs of regional Mississippi food industries.
  • Support graduate student education and participate in graduate committees when invited.
  • Oversee laboratory facilities supporting research and industry services, including food safety testing.
  • Publish in high-quality refereed journals and present findings at professional meetings; participate in professional societies and intramural service.
