Job summary

Hearst Newspapers in New York City is seeking a Director of Product Design to lead the vision for next‑generation news experiences across Hearst’s portfolio. Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineers, and cross‑functional partners to drive highly crafted, user‑centered products and advance an AI‑enabled design practice.

Qualifications

• Proven track record leading complex digital product design in cross-functional teams.
• Solid understanding of contemporary UX design principles.
• Experience driving 0 to 1 product work.
• Strong portfolio showcasing design projects.
• Comfortable with Figma, design systems, Storybook, HTML/CSS, Git, and AI-assisted development.
• Ability to collaborate with engineers in production code.
• Familiarity with AI tooling frameworks.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with newsrooms, revenue teams to develop product concepts.
• Shape AI-powered product experiences with UX principles around transparency and trust.
• Execute detailed design work with craft and rigor.
• Leverage user research and market insights for design strategy.
• Identify opportunities to elevate design across current products and initiate new workstreams.
• Work within and improve the design system.
• Mentor junior designers and lead complex projects.
