Job summary

Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking a Director-level scientific and technical leader to spearhead the agentic AI co-scientist initiative across the organization. You will define strategy, architecture, evaluation, and delivery plans for co-scientist capabilities, integrating internal development with external tools, and aligning stakeholders to deliver trusted AI that aids hypothesis generation, planning, and decision support.

This Boston-based, hybrid role requires 3 days per week onsite.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, AI, ML or related field with 10+ years of relevant experience.
• Senior leadership experience in drug discovery, AI/ML, or related field.
• Track record leading cross-functional initiatives from strategy through delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional team to define roadmap for agentic AI co-scientist.
• Evaluate internal and external AI capabilities with evidence-based frameworks.
• Define validation standards for correctness, reliability and reproducibility.
• Drive adoption and delivery while preserving human scientific judgment.
• Communicate strategy and milestones to executives.
