Job summary

Vertex Pharmaceuticals seeks a director-level scientific and technical leader to head the agentic AI co-scientist program. You will align stakeholders, define strategy, architecture, evaluation, and delivery plans for co-scientist capabilities across multiple scientific use cases, balancing internal development with external tool evaluation.

The role is Boston-based, hybrid, requiring three days on-site weekly.

Qualifications

• PhD with 10+ years in scientific drug discovery or related field.
• Experience leading cross-functional, matrixed initiatives from strategy to delivery.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive adoption of AI capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead senior scientific and technical direction for the agentic AI co‑scientist program.
• Define priorities, roadmap, and evaluation framework across sites and modalities.
• Oversee internal development and evaluation of AI capabilities and external tools.
• Establish governance, acceptance criteria, and measurable impact on scientific outcomes.
