Job description

Title: Director, Actuarial Services - MSSP

Location: Remote

Type: FTE

Salary: $180,000-$230,000 + Bonus

This business is a forward-thinking healthcare organization focused on delivering data-driven, value-based care solutions, with a strong emphasis on transparency, innovation, and improved patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monthly Forecasting: Lead the development of monthly financial forecasts by analyzing key trends in utilization, revenue, and cost across MSSP populations. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure forecasts align with business goals and strategic initiatives.

  • IBNR Calculations & Financial Projections: Accurately calculate Incurred But Not Reported (IBNR) claims and project associated costs and revenues. Maintain a strong understanding of actuarial methodologies to support financial planning and risk management.

  • Data Summarization & Insight Translation: Work closely with the Analytics Team to review large datasets, extract key insights, and translate complex data into actionable summaries for use by leadership and operational teams.

  • Budgeting & Financial Planning: Take ownership of the biannual budgeting process (typically in October and January), developing detailed financial models to guide decision-making and ensure alignment with long-term business strategies.

  • Business Development Support: Partner with the growth and sales teams to provide actuarial input and insights that support new business opportunities and partnership strategies, including financial modeling and scenario analysis.

  • Collaboration with Partners & Providers: Work cross-functionally with external providers, internal teams, and business partners to ensure alignment on shared goals. Communicate actuarial concepts in a clear and strategic manner to drive stakeholder understanding and engagement.

  • Cross-Departmental Communication: Serve as a key liaison between actuarial, clinical, operational, and executive teams. Be capable of explaining actuarial and financial work in the context of the broader organizational objectives, especially when working with external provider partners.

What We're Looking For:

  • Strong Communication: Able to clearly explain actuarial insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • 8+ Years Experience: Significant actuarial background, ideally in healthcare or value-based care.

  • FSA or Career ASA: Credentialed actuary with relevant experience and professional designation.

  • Strong MSSP Experience: Deep understanding of MSSP programs and performance metrics

  • Forecasting Skills: Proven ability to build and maintain cost and revenue forecasts.

  • CMS Data Proficiency: Comfortable working with CMS files for analysis and modeling.

  • Financial Optimization Focus: Skilled at identifying levers to improve financial results.
