Job summary

Georgia Southern University is seeking a Director of Accounting & Budgets to lead the Foundations’ accounting and financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, timely reporting, and strong customer service. You will supervise GL, AP, budgets, and reporting, partnering with CFO on cash management and interdepartmental accounting needs.

The role requires a Bachelor's in accounting, 4+ years in accounting, and preferred CPA; nonprofit and fund accounting experience is a plus.

  • CPA certification preferred.

Job Summary

Oversee the University Philanthropic Foundation and AthleticFoundation general accounting and financial reporting to ensurethat transaction accuracy, reporting accuracy and high-levelcustomer service is delivered to our internal and externalcustomers. Will oversee maintenance of general ledger, accountspayable, budget management , report development, generation andanalysis, budget to actual reporting, financial statementpreparation and analysis, investment accounting, accountingresearch and problem resolution, reconciliation processes, assistCFO with cash management and other operational needs and projectsrelated to the financial activities and initiatives of theorganizations.

Responsibilities
  • Serve on Chief Financial Officer's Leadership team and assistCFO with audit and tax return (income and use tax) compliance,working closely with outside audit and tax advisors to ensuretimely, clean, and accurate filing and compliance with FASB and IRS regulations.
  • Oversee, analyze, and record investment, endowment andadministrative fee activity for the Foundations, including relatedreporting and compliance; complete annual endowment surveys andrespond to related institutional and external data requests. Alsooversee Gift Annuity and Charitable Trust Accounting forfoundations
  • Develop, implement and maintain accounting policies, proceduresand internal controls to promote accurate financial reporting andefficient foundation operations
  • Work closely with the university finance and business office onaccounting matters related to charges and reimbursement betweenentities, occasional reporting support for NCAA compliance reportsfor the athletic foundation and various other miscellaneousneeds
  • Manage and oversee staff responsible for management of E&G("state") budget activities for University Advancement and ExternalRelations ensuring appropriate monitoring, reporting and sharing ofdata with university finance are handled timely and accurately.Responsible for various approvals and routings required forpurchasing, budget modification requests and other transactionstypical of this role
  • Serve as "in-house" expert on Blackbaud Financial EdgeAccounting/Reporting module, and train other users as necessary todevelop depth of understanding across our unit. Trains Foundationaccount users on financial reporting software and provides supportfor on-demand report users
  • Supervise Accounting staff responsible for accounts payable,budget reporting, general ledger support, ad hoc reporting, bankand other account reconciliations and other tasks typical ofaccounting staff. Assign and delegate responsibility for workdeadlines as appropriate
