Job description

Director, Access Enablement
General Job Summary:

The Director, Access Enablement is responsible for building and governing the systems, capabilities, standards, and partnerships that enable Tryon Medical Partners to deliver scalable patient access. This role translates enterprise access priorities into an integrated enablement roadmap spanning access technology, digital access, automation, workforce enablement, clinician ramp and capacity, and performance infrastructure.

The Director leads through others and is accountable for the enablement ecosystem rather than day-to-day Access Operations or day-to-day technology configuration. The role owns strategic vendor relationships, roadmap and investment priorities, governance, implementation accountability, and cross-functional alignment across Patient Access, Clinical Access, Operations, IT/Infrastructure, and external partners.

This role is not eligible for full-time remote work. Candidates must be onsite 100% during onboarding to ensure a strong start. The potential to transition to a hybrid schedule may be considered.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
  • Own the Patient Access enablement strategy, roadmap, priorities, and outcomes, ensuring alignment with enterprise access goals.
  • Establish standards, governance, decision rights, and operating frameworks for access technology, digital access, automation, workforce enablement, clinician ramp, and related capabilities.
  • Identify structural barriers to access and prioritize scalable solutions based on patient impact, operational value, clinical implications, cost, and scalability.
  • Advise the VP, Patient Access and executive leadership on access capabilities, technology investments, vendor performance, and system-level opportunities.
Access Technology & Strategic Vendor Leadership
  • Own the business and functional strategy, roadmap, and strategic vendor relationships for Patient Access technology and enabling platforms, in partnership with IT/Infrastructure.
  • Set Patient Access business and functional direction for telephony, UCaaS/CCaaS, self-service, digital access, automation, reporting, workforce management, and related capabilities, while partnering with IT/Infrastructure on enterprise architecture, infrastructure, security, integration, technical standards, and technology risk.
  • Hold vendors accountable for delivery, performance, implementation commitments, service levels, and roadmap alignment.
  • Prioritize technology investments and ensure implementation plans have clear owners, requirements, acceptance criteria, and measurable outcomes.
Transformation, Product & Access Capability Enablement
  • Own the transformation portfolio, priorities, and outcomes, providing direction and executive support to the leaders responsible for product ownership, workflow transformation, adoption, AI, automation, digital access, and self-service initiatives.
  • Ensure transformation initiatives have clear requirements, accountable owners, adoption plans, and measurable outcomes.
  • Establish frameworks for clinician ramp, access capacity, template optimization, and other enablement capabilities in partnership with Operations and Clinical Access.
  • Ensure access technology and workflow changes support a consistent patient experience across channels and service lines.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Execution
  • Partner with the Director, Access Operations to understand operational demand, performance gaps, and required capabilities without assuming day-to-day operational ownership.
  • Partner with the Director, Clinical Access & Triage to incorporate clinical access and VBM implications into access strategy, capacity, workflow, and technology decisions.
  • Lead cross-functional implementation and resolve complex or structural barriers that span Operations, Clinical Access, Technology, IT/Infrastructure, and vendors.
  • Ensure enablement work moves from concept through implementation, stabilization, measurement, and continuous improvement.
People Leadership & Organizational Accountability
  • Lead and develop the Access Enablement function, establishing clear priorities, accountability, decision rights, and coordinated execution across the team.
  • Ensure clear accountability across enablement strategy, product and transformation, technology engineering, platform administration, and enterprise IT responsibilities.
  • Build organizational capability, accountability, and a culture of continuous improvement.
Financial Stewardship
  • Own enablement budget planning, resource allocation, business cases, and investment prioritization.
  • Evaluate vendor and technology investments based on organizational impact, cost, scalability, and measurable return.
Education and Experience
Required
  • Significant experience in healthcare operations, patient access, healthcare technology, digital transformation, or related leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional technology-enabled transformation and organizational change.
  • Experience with access technology, digital access, automation, telephony/contact center, workforce management, scheduling, or related healthcare platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience managing strategic vendors, implementation partners, roadmaps, and complex stakeholder environments.
  • Strong strategic thinking, decision-making, communication, and executive influence.
  • Experience leading leaders and/or multiple workstreams with accountability for outcomes through others.
Preferred
  • Experience with patient access operations, contact centers, referrals, clinician scheduling, or access optimization.
  • Experience with AI, automation, self-service, digital scheduling, or healthcare access product development.
  • Experience operating at the intersection of clinical, operational, and technology teams.
