Job summary

Big Brothers Big Sisters of New Mexico is seeking a Director - Community to lead regional mentoring efforts in Northern New Mexico. You will build strategic partnerships, oversee program operations, and guide youth development initiatives with a focus on safety, quality, and impact.

The role reports to the Chief Program Officer and offers hands-on leadership with opportunities to expand regional Board engagement and fundraising activities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum requirement: HS diploma or GED plus one of the listed degree/experience options.
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, education, counseling or related field (or near completion).
  • Associate degree + two years of higher education plus two years of related experience.
  • Four years of relevant work experience in youth development or related fields.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with high school students and school-based programs.
  • Strong organizational, communication and confidentiality skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard office equipment.
  • Valid New Mexico driver's license, auto insurance, and access to a personal vehicle.
  • Willingness to travel extensively in Northern New Mexico.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds (40 with assistance).
  • Preferred: experience with both youth and adult populations; familiarity with NM landscape; bilingual (English/Spanish).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of youth mentoring programs in line with standards.
  • Supervise and support program staff to ensure high-quality service.
  • Monitor program performance, budget adherence, and sustainability.
  • Ensure compliance with child safety protocols and accurate record keeping.
  • Cultivate donor, sponsor, foundation, and community relationships.
  • Secure funding through grants, sponsorships, and campaigns.
  • Collaborate with Fund Development Team on regional strategies.
  • Expand and engage Regional Board to support priorities.
  • Lead volunteer recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Build partnerships with schools and community groups.
  • Represent BBBSNM at events and in media to raise visibility.
  • Manage mentor-mentee matches and ensure developmental impact.
  • Facilitate enrollment, training, and match recommendations.
  • Plan match activities and events that foster connection and growth.
  • Monitor progress and implement long-term success strategies.

As Director - Community, you'll lead regional mentoring efforts, build strategic partnerships, and help shape the future of youth development in Northern New Mexico.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily operations of youth mentoring programs, ensuring alignment with national and state standards
  • Supervise and support program staff to maintain high-quality service delivery
  • Monitor program performance, budget adherence, and long-term sustainability
  • Ensure compliance with child safety protocols and maintain accurate records
Fund Development & Strategic Partnerships
  • Cultivate relationships with donors, sponsors, foundations, and community leaders
  • Secure funding through grant writing, sponsorships, and fundraising campaigns
  • Collaborate with the Fund Development Team to execute regional strategies
  • Expand and engage the Regional Board to support strategic priorities
Volunteer Recruitment & Community Engagement
  • Lead innovative volunteer recruitment and retention efforts
  • Build partnerships with schools, community groups, and local organizations
  • Represent BBBSNM at events and in media to elevate visibility and impact
Program Management & Match Support
  • Manage a caseload of mentor-mentee matches, ensuring positive relationships and developmental impact
  • Facilitate enrollment, training, and match recommendations
  • Plan match activities and events that foster connection and growth
  • Monitor match progress and implement strategies for long-term success
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required, plus one of the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., social work, education, counseling) or within six months of completion
  • Associate degree or two years of higher education plus two years of related experience
  • Four years of relevant work experience in youth development, social services, or related fields
  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience
  • Experience working with high school students and school-based programs
  • Strong organizational, communication, and confidentiality skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard office equipment
  • Valid New Mexico driver's license, auto insurance, and reliable access to a personal vehicle
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout Northern New Mexico
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds unassisted (40 pounds with assistance) and work in varied environments
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with both youth and adult populations
  • Familiarity with New Mexico's cultural and economic landscape
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
