The Organization

We are a non-profit formed in 2025 to serve patients who do not have insurance or access to usual sources of primary care. We are following in the footsteps of the national “free clinic” movement and a small number of similar groups in Massachusetts. Our mission is to deliver accessible, patient-centered, and free health care in a compassionate setting. We are led by an all-volunteer Board of Directors composed entirely of licensed health care providers. (Note: we were founded as Free Medical Group of Eastern Massachusetts. We changed our name in 2026 to reflect our model's reliance on amazing volunteers of all kinds to support patients and provide clinical care.)

The Role

The Director leads the organization with a wide ranging portfolio including fundraising, policy and procedure development, volunteer credentialing, operations, IT, and day-to-day responsibility during the start-up phase for our weekly clinical sessions. Clinical experience (e.g. nursing or medical training) are preferred since they allow the Director to play a hands-on role during start-up as needed.

  • Operational leadership: Identify clinic location(s), manage relationship with host site (e.g. faith-based or community-based organization, and oversee daily clinic operations, including opening/closing procedures.
  • Patient services & records: Facilitate patient outreach to make and confirm appointments. Coordinate patient flow at the clinic, manage intake processes, and ensure the secure, confidential storage of patient medical records.
  • Compliance & safety: Ensure compliance with HIPAA and relevant healthcare regulations, and update clinic policies and procedures.
  • Administrative & financials: Procure and manage inventory of medical supplies, order office materials, and oversee the budget. Aid with fundraising and grant applications. Obtain malpractice and liability insurance.
  • Liaison duties: Act as the primary contact between the organization and community partners, including community organizations and health care facilities (for example, partners who provide access to laboratory and imaging services).
  • Board of Directors: Report to the Board of Directors. The Director supports the Board’s deliberation and decision-making, and is in turn supported by the Board through the expertise, time and network of Board members.
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements and Skills
  • Experience: Previous experience in healthcare administration, office management, or a similar role.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with medical terminology, healthcare regulations, and nonprofit operations.
  • Skills: Strong organizational, multitasking, and communication skills.
  • Technology: Proficiency with computer systems, including electronic medical records (EMR) or patient management software.
  • Interpersonal: Compassion, cultural competence, and the ability to work with underserved populations and volunteers.
  • Intangibles: Energetic and “can do” approach to identifying, diagnosing, and addressing barriers to success.
  • Language skills: Conversational Spanish skills strongly preferred in order to interact directly with patients over the phone and in person. Conversational skills in other languages, in addition to English and Spanish, preferred.
Typical Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or relevant clinical training (e.g. BSN) required; equivalent experience may be a substitute.
