Job summary

MasTec Utility Services is seeking a Directional Drill Operator/Locator in North Carolina to safely operate a directional drill, place product underground, and locate the drill head to manage elevations and avoid utilities. This role supports the Line team and collaborates with department personnel.

The position requires a CDL Class A with tanker endorsement, OSHA 10, and at least one year of relevant experience, with physical ability for fieldwork and adverse weather conditions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year of relevant experience.
• CDL Class A driver’s license with tanker endorsement.
• OSHA 10 Certification.

Responsibilities

• Operate the drill rig efficiently and prepare the job and drill for safe operation.
• Pothole all utilities that will be paralleled or crossed during the bore shot.
• Verify existing utilities.
• Fill water tanks with water.
• Combine water with chemicals for boring according to the ground.
• Locate the drill head from A to B to avoid hitting utilities at the correct depth.
• Hook up swivel, reamer, and pipe product to complete the bore shot.
• Walk out bore shot to plan the route above or below utilities.
• Pull back product with the correct hole opener and mud mixture.
• Inspect and maintain drill equipment and mixing unit.

Education

CDL Class A driver’s license with tanker endorsement

High school diploma or equivalent

OSHA 10 Certification

1 year of relevant experience
