Job summary

National OnDemand, Inc. is seeking a Field Technician to install underground plant facilities and fiber cables in outdoor sites across the United States.

You will operate directional drills and mini-excavators, prepare equipment, read network prints, and follow OSHA safety protocols to complete projects on time. The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver's license, and the ability to travel up to two weeks.

Qualifications

• Must have previous experience operating directional drills.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Combination of technical training and/or relevant construction experience.
• Must pass drug, background, DOT, and MVR screenings.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel for project start-ups.

Responsibilities

• Operate directional drills, mini-excavators, and other equipment to install UG facilities.
• Set up job equipment and reel trailers.
• Perform utility exposes and understand the utility locate process.
• Locate other utilities and maintain clearances from nearby assets.
• Transport and place conduits and fiber reels correctly.
• Install fiber cables in conduits following proper procedures.
• Set and secure pedestals and vaults accurately.
• Read and interpret network prints.

Primary Position Duties:

• Operate directional drills, mini-excavators, and other equipment to install UG plant facilities.
• Set up job equipment and reel trailers proficiently.
• Perform utility exposes (potholing) and understand the utility locate process.
• Locate other utilities as needed and maintain clearances from other utilities, ground, road, highway, sidewalk, and non-pedestrian areas.
• Transport, handle, and place conduits (rolled and stick) in a proper manner.
• Properly transport and install fiber reels.
• Install fiber cables in conduits following correct procedures.
• Set and secure pedestals and vaults accurately.
• Read and interpret network prints.
• Adhere to OSHA safety requirements to ensure safe and efficient completion of the job(s).
• Maintain regular phone communication throughout the workday.
• Follow directions provided by the crew leader.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

Working Conditions:

• The employee will primarily work in the field.
• The job requires working outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Exposure to dust, fluctuating temperatures, and periodic high noise levels may occur.

Travel:

• Travel to other project sites in different states may be required to assist with new project start-ups.
• Travel may be for up to a 14-day period.

Education or Skills:

• Previous experience operating directional drills is required.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Combination of technical training and/or relevant experience.
• Previous experience in a construction environment is preferred.
• Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position.
• Flexibility to work nights and weekends, if necessary.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions.
• Valid driver's license.
• Authorized to work in the United States.
• Must pass drug, background, Department of Transportation (DOT), and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) screenings.
