Job summary

Cable Services Group is seeking a Directional Bore Operator/ Locator to join our crew in the Williamsport area. This is a travel position with extended away-from-home periods; local assignments are the exception.

You will operate directional drill equipment to install conduits and cables and must read engineering drawings to verify bore paths. The role requires the ability to work in varying weather, manage multiple tasks, and perform heavy lifting as part of a crew on projects throughout the

Qualifications

• Familiar with reading and interpreting engineering/construction prints and plans.
• Knowledge of utility depths and placements.
• Ability to work in various environments with moderate to loud noise levels.
• Must be comfortable working 10+ hours and in varying weather.
• Experience preferred in telecommunications bore work or rock boring.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload bore equipment securely and safely.
• Transport tools and materials to job sites.
• Inspect bore equipment daily before use.
• Prepare drill fluids based on site conditions.
• Locate/operate directional drill and place cables per blueprints.
• Identify utilities and verify bore paths.
• Connect conduits and wire, dig pits and restore disturbed areas.
• Complete timesheets and logs in a timely manner.

Job description

Directional Bore Operator/ Locator We're looking for a Directional Bore Operator / Locator to join our crew. We are searching the area of Williamsport for our next potential Directional Bore Operator / Locator. This is a traveling position; our crews work job sites throughout the Northeast, and candidates should expect to be away from home for extended stretches, including multiple nights during the week. Any local or nearby assignments should be considered the exception rather than the rule.

Summary/Objective

This position performs tasks required for the operation of directional drill including set-up and bore path completion for the construction/upgrade of communications conduit, gas, water, sewer, etc.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Load and unload directional bore equipment in a manner that is secure and damage free
• Transport associated tools, materials and/or equipment in a safe manner
• Complete a daily inspection on bore equipment prior to commencing work
• Prepare the drill fluid based on site conditions prior to boring commencing
• In conjunction with bore crew, locate/operate the directional drill using the selected bore heads and back reamers to place cables
• Operate horizontal directional drill equipment in accordance with company and industry standards
• Responsible for locating cables and verification in accordance with blueprints
• Identifies utilities in the construction area and bore path
• Connect/stub-up conduit and wire
• Dig pits, trenches or potholes as required including windows when crossing utilities
• Restores and/or landscapes disturbed areas of the jobsite
• Accurately complete all required company documentation for each assignment according to established company standards and procedures (i.e. timesheet, vehicle log, expense report)
• Adhere to all established company safety policies and perform work in a safe manner
• Perform other duties and tasks as assigned in order to help team complete a project

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Possess general knowledge of construction practices

Travel

• Travel Weekly travel is required for this position.
• Company will pay hotel expenses (shared room) and per diem

Preferred Education and Experience

• One year of experience operating a directional borer preferably in the telecommunications field
• Previous rock boring experience
• Class A CDL Requirements
