Job summary

Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services at the Southeastern Virginia Training Center seeks Direct Support Professionals for the PM shift. You will support individuals with disabilities and assist with daily living activities and behavioral needs.

Preferred CNA/CNS/PCA background; requires high school diploma, valid driver's license, and ability to work flexible hours. The role includes pre-service training (CPR/First Aid, medication management) and a 2:30 p.m.–11:00 p.m.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience supporting individuals with disabilities preferred.
• Valid driver's license and basic computer skills required.

Southeastern Virginia Training Center is hiring Direct Support Professionals to join our team. Do you have a background as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), or Personal Care Assistant (PCA)? We are looking for kind, caring, and reliable Direct Support Professionals to provide essential care and behavioral support to individuals with disabilities.

About The Role

These positions are considered essential personnel and would be required to work in the event of an emergency or facility need. All SEVTC positions are required to work different shifts and/or overtime as requested.

• Assist individuals with daily living activities, personal care, and support for mobility.


• Utilize behavior management strategies to support individuals exhibiting maladaptive behaviors.


• Provide emotional and behavioral support while promoting independence.


• Implement behavior intervention plans and work collaboratively with a support team.


• Foster a safe, structured, and positive environment.

Shift Hours

2:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.

Shift Differential Is Available For The Following Shifts

2nd shift weekday $2.50/hr. weekend $3.00/hr.

All new hires must successfully complete the facility’s pre-service training program for Direct Support Professional Staff, to include Person Centered Approach techniques, CPR/First Aid Certification, TOVA, medication administration, nutritional management and physical/behavioral management, for continued employment. Training in behavior management and crisis intervention is available. (Preservice training class is 10 days long 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday - Friday).

• Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job with or without reasonable accommodation, which includes standing, bending, walking, pushing/pulling, lifting up to 50 pounds, providing support during all aspects of daily personal care, and intervening with aggressive behaviors.


• Successful completion of the facility’s pre-service training program, which includes CPR, First Aid, medication administration, nutritional management, and physical/behavioral management, is required for continued employment.


• Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers, Residential Supervisors and/or Supervisors, Administrator on Duty (after hour supervisors) and ID team members.

Bonus Points If You Have

• Prior experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, and other disabilities


• Prior experience working with medically fragile individuals.


• Prior experience as a Direct Support Professional, a Certified Nursing Assistant, or similar role.


• Demonstrated experience working with electronic medical records.
