Overview

The Arc invites you to join our team of value-driven and independent professionals. This is a human services position providing support to persons with disabilities in community settings to help individuals lead more fulfilling lives. Sociable individuals will mentor, coach, and assist clients in personal hygiene, cooking, grocery shopping, cleaning, and other activities of daily living while encouraging community participation.

Responsibilities

• Educate clients on skills such as personal hygiene, cooking, grocery shopping, cleaning, and other activities of daily living.
• Explore community businesses and social activities, supporting clients’ employment, household, and personal goals.
• Work with the team to plan and advocate for clients.
• Provide support, training and basic money‑management, shopping skills, building relationships, volunteering, and leisure skill development.
• Assist in implementing personal plans and providing outcomes and strategies under supervision.
• Actively participate in team meetings and maintain confidentiality of persons served.
• Develop plans for evacuation and train in emergency services.

Essential Job Functions

• Serve as an ambassador of The Arc mission and uphold it daily.
• Support the mission with caring and training to persons in daily life skills.
• Maintain safety and create safe environment. Develop evacuation plans.
• Provide training in money management, shopping skills, relationships, volunteering and leisure.
• Maintain confidentiality of persons served.
• Implement outcomes and strategies of individual personal plans.
• Participate actively in team meetings.
• Initiate community inclusion and access opportunities.
• Support vocational, domestic, and leisure activities in community.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Work independently in a one-on‑six community setting.
• Exercise good judgement and discretion.
• Demonstrate appropriate role‑modeling skills.
• Work varied and flexible hours, adapt to changes in assignments.
• Work with and respect persons with disabilities, advocate for their rights.
• Accurately report and record data and observations.
• Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Stand, stoop, lift up to 50 lbs, and pull and push items.
• Pass CPR and First Aid certification.
• Maintain punctuality and attendance record.
• Transport individuals to community locations safely.
• Hold a Missouri Class E driver license or ability to obtain it.

Minimum Experience and Training Qualifications

• Minimum 18 years of age and diploma from an accredited high school or equivalent.
• Preferred experience working with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
• Complete CPR and First Aid course.
• Complete 16‑hour medication administration course.
• Complete 10‑hour MANDT System Workshop.
• Complete OSHA health and safety regulations course.
• Complete Abuse & Neglect course.
• Complete Electronic Documentation course.
• Other training per department or location as required.
