Job summary

United Counseling Service (UCS) in Bennington, Vermont, is seeking a Direct Support Professional to support adults with developmental disabilities through the Supported Independent Living Program (SILP). The role focuses on teaching daily living skills and promoting independence within home and community settings.

You will assist with health care, finances, meals, shopping, personal care, and community participation while advocating for clients and recording progress in UCS systems.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Direct Service experience preferred.
• Experience with individuals with intellectual disabilities preferred.
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Outlook for internal email communication.
• Valid Driver’s License is required.
• Reliable transportation to transport clients on occasion.

Responsibilities

• Teach daily living skills in consumers’ homes and within the community.
• Assist consumers with health care needs, finances, cooking and meal planning, shopping, home care and household tasks, and personal care.
• Model and educate consumers on healthy relationship skills and personal boundaries.
• Advocate for consumers with medical, dental, legal, and other service providers as needed.
• Monitor and support self-medication administration with proficiency.
• Respond appropriately to consumer emergencies and provide emotional support when needed.
• Record keeping and administrative tasks including daily timesheets and progress notes.
• Attend staff meetings, supervision sessions and mandatory trainings.
