Job summary

LIFESPAN is hiring Direct Support Professionals to provide compassionate, 1:1 care in home and community settings in Dobson, NC. This entry-level role welcomes applicants with a high school education and no prior behavioral health experience, offering paid training and flexible scheduling.

Position supports people with disabilities, with opportunities for growth, training, and advancement within a values-driven organization. Transportation and caregiving responsibilities may apply.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Valid driver’s license for a minimum of two consecutive years.
• High school graduate or equivalent (GED).
• First Aid/CPR certification is required or training provided by Lifespan.

Responsibilities

• Teach skills to promote independence.
• Support community inclusion and integration.
• Mentor individuals to help build social skills and relationships.
• Provide guidance and support in daily activities.
• Assist with eating, bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, and other activities of daily living.
• Assist with meal preparation.
• Monitor and report health and safety objectives.
• Assist with participation in leisure/recreational activities.
• Use electronic health records to document activities and events.
• Submit documentation and payroll data on schedule.
• Complete initial and ongoing training, and participate in staff development activities.
• Depending on the person supported, assist with transportation and mobility, including transfer techniques.

What you’ll do:

• Depending on the person you support, you may be required to:
  • Administer medications. Training is provided. Nursing team supports you.
  • Provide transportation to and from designated sites.
  • Assist people with mobility needs, e.g. utilize transfer techniques, a Hoyer lift and/or gait belt. Training is provided.

Qualifications: What you need:

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of two consecutive years
• Pass criminal record and healthcare registry check
• Pass driving record check if providing transportation
• High school graduate or equivalent (GED)
• Commitment to achieve competency in required knowledge, skills, and abilities
• Note: Current First Aid/CPR blended or classroom certification is required. If you do not currently have certification from an approved provider, our American Red Cross certified instructors will provide you the training.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds independently (per policy)
